If you want to be there for harvest--go in mid to late September (sometimes early Oct depending on when the vintners decide to pick the grapes)--however it will be crowded and the hotel prices will be very high.
Summer is nice--less crowded especially during the week. Days are hot, usually upper 90's, but the nights are cool down to about 50's. It doesn't rain though during this time frame.
Winter is cold and rainy all the time (since from around May to Oct it only rains like 2 inches total).
Spring is comfortable, again it will be rainy and probably around 60 degrees or so during the day. They have the Mustard Festival in late March/early April.
Check out www.napavalley.com for info on hotels, restaurants, wineries, etc. Have fun!

Spring when all the students are in Florida and Mexico. Not so crowded and the scenery is magnificent. Oh yeah go up into a town called Chico and visit the Sierra Nevada Brewery. It has an excellent pub/grill.

I have visited twice in early September (right after Labor Day) and had exquisite weather - sunny and warm and dry. It's also a little less crowded than in the summer. Mustard's Grill for dinner and Hess Winery for a tour are my favorite places to visit.

I always loved it in spring, late summer and fall. full on summer and winter was always miserable there for me.

I grew up not far from there and spent a lot of time as a youth and young adult. go and enjoy.
