Well, if you "broke" a plate, then you have a "broken plate".
"Broke" is a verb", "broken" is an adjective".

Broken is the word. Broke is the past tense of break (a verb). Broken is the describing word (not a verb).

depends on how you use it...

for example,

She died of a broken heart.
I broke my leg.

Basically, you choose to use broke or broken based on the the verb or tense...broken is the past participle of break, used as an adjective, broke is a verb...hope this helps

If something doesn't work right, it is definitely BROKEN. The popular saying "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" is grammatically incorrect.
