I read that "It will likely take several months for your body to resume ovulation and a normal menstrual cycle after stopping your oral contraceptives, which means you probably won't get pregnant right away. " I am thinking about trying to get pregnant next month after my next period. What have you experienced first using the pill and then going off trying to get pregnant? I was told that all I would have to do is stop taking my pill. Reading the above kinda bummed me out...help....

Every woman is different. Some will conceive straight after going off the pill, other's will not, some even get pregnant whilst taking the pill! As the pill alters the very sensitive balance of hormones in your body, that result in ovulation, your body may need some time to regulate itself again. This is not to say that you will never get pregnant.

My recommendation to you is to come off the pill this month, instead of next month. For the month afterwards, you should be able to use a method of non-hormonal contraception, until you are ready to try and conceive. This will give your body a headstart on regulating itself.

I'm going to include the link to a trying to conceive forum, that I strongly advise you to join. It's full of supportive women with boundless knowledge, tips and tricks about conceiving. I learnt so much there that I doubt I would have learnt otherwise.

Dear friend, I heard so many things about TTC after the pill that I was scared to death! The truth is that it takes about 30 hrs for the hormones to leave your body after the last pill you took, that's what my doctor told me on my preconception appointment. After that it will depend on your body, because now it will have to start working on its own. When I got off the pill, it took me 6 weeks to get my first period and I got pregnant on that first cycle. I took the pill for 6.5 years and I thought it was going to take me a while to concieve but Thank God it happened right away on the first month! When we are on the pill, the hormones stop ovulation and the menstruation is fake, you bleed because the different color pills on the package do not have hormones which cause your body to bleed, so when you quit the pill your body has to start ovulating and that's what takes a while but it can happen right away!! it also depends a lot on how healthy you are. Quit smoking if you do, quit drinking if you do, do NOT do drugs, and start taking the prenatal vitamins. I didn't finish my last package, that is why it might have taken me 6 weeks to have my period so if I were you I would finish the last package and then go from there. Good luck!!

After I went off the pill, it took me three tries to get pregnant. My cycles didn't get thrown off. They stayed about the same length. Some women get pregnant sooner than others after going off the pill. What helped me is paying attention to ovulation signs (one of which was the cramp some women get when the egg is released). One website I found helpful is www.babycenter.com This site has some information about getting pregnant after going off the pill.

I went off the pill the first week in January, and found out that I was pregnant the first week in February. Everyone is different, but it is very possible to get pregnant right away!
Good Luck!

after a woman stops taking an OC, she may not be able to become pregnant for 1 or 2 months, and possibly 6 to 8 months, because the pituitary gland requires a recovery period to begin cyclic gonadotropin stimulation again. If ovulation does not return spontaneously after this time, it can be stimulated by clomiphene citrate (Clomid) therapy.

....this is what my book says. so it looks like you're gonna have to postpone having a baby.

I was on the contraceptive patch. Similar medicine to the pill. I got pregnant on my second cycle off of birth control. My hubby was a little shocked we got pregnant so fast. He thought we'd have to wait 6 months or so.

Some people get pregnant right away, but the average is 3 months - it takes that long for your body to re-regulate itself. Good Luck!

Everyone is different. Some people get pregnant right away. Just go to your Dr. and find out if you have any other things that you should be concerned with and then let nature take its course. I'm sure everything will be just fine.
