Are the two networking cards equivalent???

If a notebook card states that it has transfer rates up to 54mbps and 2.4g operating range, and a desktop card says the same, than are they equal? doesn't the big antenna infer anything on the desktop card, such as greater distances??

The antenna on that you describe on the desktop card may offer you greater reception (all things being equal), but other than that the cards are identical except for their applications (desktop vs. laptop).
