aloe vera

There is no need to lecture this poor momma who is trying to get advice for something that she didn't foresee happening! Obviously she was attempting to protect her little one because she had her in the shade, not the direct sunlight! I would try cool wet washclothes and aloe vera. I wouldn't put lotion on it just because the skin is already irritated and lotions have so many chemicals in them. Also, do not use Vaseline as suggested by another person. Anything that is greasy, such as Vaseline, will hold in the heat. Vaseline is good for a lot of things, but not sunburn. Also, although they say not to use sunscreen on babies younger than 6 months, I have a 6 month old and have been using sunscreen on her for the past 3 months and she is just fine! Good luck with the burn!

First of all, a 5 week old baby shouldn't be outdoors unprotected. I'm not talking about sunscreen, which should only be used on babies at least 6 months old, I'm talking about clothing and an umbrella even in the shade. It's true UV rays can penetrate both and clouds for that matter, but the more layers of protection, the better her chances are of NOT getting burnt. If it's too hot for her to wear a shirt, then she should be indoors because she's more susceptible to heat stroke as well as a sun burn. That being said, apply some 100% aloe to the burn and keep her in cotton clothes so her skin can breathe. DO NOT USE VASELINE OR LOTION!! Anything remotely greasy will hold in the heat!

Poor child. I got a terrible sunburn from being in the shade. Those reflective rays are terrible. You might try a little aloe but remember babies are not suppose to get much in the way of medicine so be careful. I would call your doc in the morning to be safe. My daughter has triplets who are 2 months old. She would probably not use anything but baby lotion if I know her. Good luck..

Put damp cool cloths on her back to make it feel better. To make it go away faster, Aloe Vera Gel
For sunburn there is nothing better than aloe vera gel; it is antibacterial and deeply healing for burns in part because of aloectin B, which stimulates the immune system. Aloe vera gel is used in hospitals for burn victims. Aloe Vera comes from the aloe vera plant, and the gel may be squeezed from its leaves, or you can buy pure aloe vera gel as a product in most health food stores.

A cool wet cloth soaked in apple cider vinegar will remove the sting of the sunburn and soothe it pretty much immediately. Don't go for aloe vera or creams; creams will hold the heat in.

Hope this helps!

That's the problem with young babies...their skin is SO delicate (even in shade!) and they can't use sunblock until they're 6 months old, so what do you do with them, you know?

I'd suggest buying an Aloe plant, breaking the stems open and rubbing that on her, after giving her a cool bath. Try to avoid any "after sun burn care" products (solarcaine, etc.) as the chemicals in them might be too harsh for such tender skin.

Also, dress her in something very, very soft (a cotton undershirt/tshirt) and try not to let it rub her shoulders and irritate them any more than they already are.

First i would recommend that you check with the doctor to make sure that it is not a wind burn and second if it is a sunburn and your child was in the shade use Vitamin E Capsules just break them open and put them there. Next I would check with your doctor getting burned in the sun is a sign of vitamin K deficiency and can cause lots of problems for your child as they get older.

The best way is a Aloe plant! Just get one of the leaves and peel it back on one side and rub gently on the burn. Since she is a baby i would be careful. You never know what mite irritate the skin. Best bet is to call you doc and see what he has to say!

1. Place slices of fresh cucumber on her back for long minutes.

or

2. Spread on her back generous amounts of anti constipation remedies. I'd go for an old product which I don't know if still around: Phillips's Magnesium Milk. It's odorless and totaly harmless.
