has anyone used a hudson (bug, weed killer) sprayer to spray decking? If so, what is the best product to use that involves only spraying (no wiping etc.)? dm 'n socal

I've used Hudsons for many applications, but they aren't the best way to go, as the pressure is eratic, the spray is not always strictly defined, and they will splatter. Also continued pumping is an effort I'd avoid. Also the trigger mechanisms don't always shut off the flow completely, immediately.

Redwood stain fading? Seeing silvered wood along with the fading stain?

I'd pressure wash the deck first, and if you have to have redwood stain again, roll it with a long nap roller, after it dries.

Certainly without knowing the size of the deck I can't give you an estimate of time or expense, but Redwood stain, designed for decking is a thin based stain, and is available in both Oil and Latex. If the deck is very large, and you assume to get the job done in very short order, rent a power sprayer. I offer this as well although I dislike the equipment. Wagner sprayer would be adequate for decking.

My husband used a hand sprayer (with a pump) one time and found it very time consuming and hard to control spray. He got it all over the siding where the house meets the deck. Get a roller and a paint tray and roll it on, much quicker and neater.
