my first labor was wonderful. it was finished in under 2 hours with 2 sets of double pushing. i didn't even ask for any pain killers. i really didn't mind going through with it again. the second time was just a little harder - about 2 hours and some minutes with more pushing than the first. i had a shot of pain killer and i didn't think i wanted to do it again. my third time was difficult. it lasted several hours and received 2 shots of pain killers. i pushed and pushed and knew i never wanted to go through that again.
every pregnancy and delivery is different, but i do think the time of day effects your performance. i think giving birth in the early morning, say after midnight, is harder because your body is adjusted to sleeping rather than doing massive labor work - unless of course you work grave-yard ;).

It hurts thats for sure. Strong cramps that peak and go away then back again.I do hope you have taken natural child birth classes these will help prepare you and give you tools to use to get through this. Many women take no pain meds but more do take meds. They will also give you a epidural that blocks the pain if you want one. if you feel you need the pain meds then by all means go ahead and use them. For me the labor pains I could bear. The worse part was the last hour of pushing that hurt. I did it though both kids no pain meds.

It's tough! It hurts like a mother, if you have good doctors, they usually give you some pain killers, but some docs don't like to give much, because the baby will not be as awake. That's the bad, but once you had your child, and you have seen his face, you will know it was worth it. Another thing is that nature kind of makes you forget after awhile and you forget what it was like. I forgot the intensity, but I reminded myself that it did hurt! Another thing is that it comes and goes, so you rest in moments, and when the BIG ONE comes, you are so caught up that, the baby is born, you forget.

To me it felt like I was on my period, cramping and lots of lower back pain, but I had natural childbirth, they gave me some demerol, but it only helped my apprehension, not really the pain, but it was better than nothing

to me it felt like very strong and painful gas cramps. I never really had bad cramps with my period, so I couldn't equate it with that. Just remember deep breaths, not panting. It will come and go so there will be momentary relief. Hopefully you will be lucky and your labor won't be too long! Good luck and Congrats!
