You really should wait because most of your body's blood and energy will be directed to digesting your food, so if you are swimming, you might get tired more easily and in the worst case, drown. You also get stomach cramps when you do a strenuous activity right after eating. It is okay to jump into the pool after eating, but it is best to just wait.

well it depends on your body. some people cramp easily and others dont. but if you were to eat then go swim around or jump on a trampoline, etc etc most people would cramp. but if you were just to sit in the pool and do basically nothing, you probably would be fine. what i do is take pepto bismal if i dont have time to wait before going in the pool after eating

in the news on fox 5. a doctor said it was just a myth. people wait because they feel to much action is going to make them throw up. if your not one of those people you can go right ahead

the truth to this is that if you eat and go swim soon after you can get a cramp that will make it hard to swim thus causing you to drown.....although I've never heard this actually happen. As long as your at a place with other people or a lifeguard no worries

It depends what you're going to do in the pool. If you're just going to float around, cool off, or other easy going things you won't have to wait. If you plan on doing rigorous exercizes you might want to wait.

Yes you really should wait, if you just got done eating a meal because if you don't you'll get stomach cramps, but if you've just ate something like a cracker or a snack cake, it's really not necessary.

It is a total myth without any sound medical basis. It's just something Moms told kids decades ago and has stayed around. No truth to it at all.

It is part-myth.
There was a recent test done on this on a tv shop in Australia. What they found was that it depended on what kind of food you ate, not time waited.
They found that even hamburgers and fries were ok!
If you think about it, Susie Moroney (and others) swam 2 days straight when they do their ocean swims and the ate during it and were ok.
