There was a backlash because of the manner in which she handled the situation and the time she chose to say the things that she said. She waited until she in front of a foreign crowd because she knew that their American fans would not be so receptive of such comments. She also said the things while many Americans were still responding to 9/11 and other high publicied terrorist attacks of the time. Moreover, many of their fans are Southern Republicans, people known for their staunch loyalty to their party. I don't think that the Dixie Chicks are exactly back in popular standing. Their song is barely charting, and it's only big on charts outside of their typical fanbase. They have a hit on VH1, but aren't they looking for one on CMT? People are not responding well to them, and I figure they will never be the same.

It was before everyone finally realized the W Needed a beating, not a bash. They are back in good standing now!

I thought it was great when she did that! And I'm not even a Dixie Chicks fan!

I think it had to do with the fact that she said it in France to a French audience, where she was guaranteed to get a positive reaction. Also, God-forbid a country musician not be a conservative.

Because her comments were on foreign soil. It is as cowardly as talking about someone behind their back and not be willing to tell them face to face.
