Which country will be the next world power in the coming years?

If we read our history, we'll notice a pattern:

The Greeks looked down on the Romans and derided them as barbaric copiers of Hellenic culture.......Rome eventually grew and took over Greece
The Romans looked down on the northern barbarians....those northern barbarians helped end Roman supremacy and evolved into the Holy Roman Empire of Charlemagne, which dominated the European scene for centuries.
In the colonial era, Europeans saw the growing U.S. and Russia as desolate backwaters, populated by ignorant colonists and boors.....until the U.S. and the Soviet Union came to be (as we all know, USSR eventually fell, leaving the U.S. the sole superpower)

My conclusion?...... Countries which are looked down upon now, become the super-powers of tomorrow. So be careful who you put down!!

I believe the country or countries that will come up to power will be Asian countries that we have for so long thought as 3rd world. Their economies are booming due to the fact that no one in this country wants to work. Outsourcing and other economic tricks are fueling their economy; at the price of today's leaders. I see China, Japan and India rising to the front of the table here very soon. The United States cannot stay on top forever, especially at the rate this country is falling apart.

People think that since we are the leaders in every field now that we will be forever. This isn't the case. We need people to step up to the intuitive and make better and better things. If we don't other people in other counties will. People are comfortable with the way things are today, but, they do not realize that in a few years, things are going to change, and we are going to be left in the dark.

The United States may be on top now, but, just lake many before it; it will be beaten by someone else. German and French Empires have fallen, as have Roman and Egyptian. All happened because of stupid mistakes and people getting comfortable. I feel that if people do not step up their game and realize we have a fight to be on top, we will lose our 'top of the game' look in the next few years. It is people like the person who posted before me, Gary who are the reason that the country is falling apart. Their attitude that everything is always going to be the same is what is killing our country, and feeding others.

there are several in line:
China - huge military, huge population, strong economic drive, and a large expatriate population which still retains ties to their homeland
India - similar reasons for China, minus the military capability
Brazil - still suffering from corruption and social inequality but has vast natural resources
Russia - declining population may be bad, but can be also good since theres less crowding. If they find a way to access Siberia's natural resources........

other countries with a favorable future are South Korea, Iran, Israel, Australia, and Ireland
