Is 54Mbps fast? Does this just refer to the transfer rate from the router to the card? If so, is that faster than the transfer rate that a lot of companies offer for their internet services (e.g. "A blazing 10 Mbps transfer rate!"), even though the service's speed is prob. more impt.? Lastly, would it matter what speed of card i get (e.g., 54 mbps, 108 mbps, etc.) if the internet service isn't any faster than 10 mbps????? Thanks

Yes, 54Mbps is the maximum theoretical transfer rate from the Card to the Router and back :)

The 54Mbps refers to the speed from the router to the card under good conditions. So if you have a good connection, you can transfer this fast. 54Mbps is fine for Internet use since most high speed services are not nearly this fast (unless you have fiber optic cable running directly to your house, which I doubt). The only thing you may want to get a faster card for is transferring large amounts of data between computers on the same network. But even then, 54 Mbps is still good for this.

54 Mbps is pretty fast although not the fastest. Mbps refers to megabytes per second. The higher the number the faster the download. However you will not notice much of a difference until you download large files or a lot of small files at once. When you first connect to the router it should tell you how fast you are being connected, If not right click on computer icon at the bottom of your screen next to the clock.Hope that helps

You are correct... if the main propose for the card is to go to internet, 54Mbps is fast enough coz as you said all the internet service are way less than 10mbps.

If you are networking more than one computer it's important to get the 108MBPS cards otherwise the 54MBPS card is just dandy as you are correct the internet service can only get like 12MBPS to yah under current technowledgy.

That is houw fast the router can usually transfer data at (maximum) 54mbs means that it can transfer data at 54mbs. Most routers can transfer data at 100mbs or 1000mbs (SUPER fast) If you really want the best, then go with Wireless-N (like a/b/g) Wireless-N is supposed to be up to 650% faster than Wireless-G. So, its like 400mbs and with the 108 its like 800mbs or something (wireless).

Save yourself some money. By the time you ready to upgrade to 108mbps ( meaning internet technology has caught up to that) those cards will be much cheaper. So just buy the 54.
