No-one yet understands the phenomenon we call consciousness, but we can certainly say some things about it;

- it's closly tied to the brain
- it appears to be causal just like everything else (thoughts can be triggered with direct external stimulation)
- it is not perpetual (it goes away at times during sleep, under some medications, etc)
- it appears to be irreducible, meaning we can never understand the whole by understanding the parts
- certain aspects of consciousness have been identified in terms of subsystems like image rotation, scaling, contrast adjustment, and many many more in terms of how we process language, math, set theory, vision, etc.

Maybe some day we'll understand.

Maybe our mind or soul or awareness is a completely physical occurance, like you can not have fire with out certain things being in constant presence. Same seems to go with "life." I think the idea of our awareness is just a tool to get around with, but if it is true or not... well... what is true?

do not believe the simple answers from people who suggest that some creator supplied them to all of us. that answer of course is the bright red flag for superstitious simplemindedness. ignorance is bliss, and an excuse for tossing your ignorance far and wide, it turns out... your mind and your soul have always been here and did not come from somewhere. you are you, no more no less, and you quite naturally feel the need to capture and define your experience in durable terms. welcome to being, welcome to being alive, and most magnetically welcome to your own individual soul, sweetheart. anyone that tries to impose their wholeview on you is likely a little too full of themselves, trying to see how they might exist in your world, or on your features. avoid them. our soul and our mind did not come from somewhere, they have always been here and 'have never not been here'. you have the right to feel quite secure here. this world is as much specifically designed for you as it is an unknown adventure for you. feel safe and go forth!
