Depends on the budget, but definitely stay on Disney property, its a wise choice.
Value- I reccomend POP Century, its the newest value resort and as far as I can tell, the nicest with the most atmosphere. I recently stayed at the All-Star Movies and was not impressed at all, and I'm pretty sure All-Star Sports and All-Star Music would be even worse because they were built even before All-Star Movies.
Moderate- I would definitely say "Caribbean Beach Resort". You really get the feel thet you're on an island! The resort is divided up into villages and each "village" has its own pool. Although the Main pool is awesome! There is a big lake surrounded with sand and chairs and hammocks so you can relax. Old Port Royale (the main food court, stores, etc. are located here) is really nice. The decorations and tropical colors on the inside are so pretty! They also have a little steel drum in there so you can hear the sounds of the Caribbean.
Deluxe- I'd say either The Polynesian or The Beach Club. The polynesian has a great theme and sits right across from the Magic Kingdom on the 7 seas lagoon. You have a great view if you want to stay in for fireworks, instead of go to the park. The monorail comes right to the Polynesian and you can take it to the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT. And thats great because anytime you don't have to use those crowded Disney transportation buses is great. The Beach Club because their atmosphere also blew my mind. The entrance to EPCOT's World Showcase is a very very short walk away and if you'd like a longer walk, you can walk to MGM Studios or take a boat there. The Beach club has the best pool and the best ice cream shop entitled "Beaches and Cream".
I hope I could help, Have a Magical Vacation!

It obviously depends on what you can afford. Numerous people have mentioned the different types of Resorts (value, moderate, deluxe.) If you're asking for an opinion, I'd say Disney's Polynesian Resort. It's the only Disney Resort I've stayed at besides the Dixie Landings Resort, which is now Port Orleans. I love the Polynesian Resort. My boyfriend and I find it very romantic. The theme is awesome. The property is covered in lush, green plants and beautiful flowers. Ducks and bunnies roam the gardens, as well as all those tiny lizards. There's Hawaiian music constantly playing all around the Resort, inside and out. There's great dining options- Captain Cook's for fast food; the Kona Cafe, one of my favorite places; 'Ohana, which offers a character breakfast and great family-style dinner; the Tambu Lounge for drinks and appetizers; and then there's the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show (Polynesian Luau), which offers all-you-care-to-eat family-style buffet with great entertainment. There's a couple of great gift shops, as well as Wyland Galleries. The artwork is so beautiful. There's all types of transportation- bus, boat, and monorail. There's two cool pools- the volcano pool and a "quiet" pool, both are fun. There's a walkway between the Polynesian and Grand Floridian Resorts, so you can walk over to the GF for dinner at Narcoossee's or breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe, or just explore the gorgeous Resort and listen to the piano being played in the lobby. One of my favorite things about the Resort is the view from our room. Last year we got a Lagoon View, room 1221 in longhouse Aotearoa, and this year we've requested it again (2 weeks until our trip!) The room was on the bottom level, had a nice little patio with chairs and a table (the ducks would come up and try to steal our Pringles, one actually walked in the room! I got a great picture! lol) Anyway, the view was of one of the beautiful white-sand beaches, the Seven Seas Lagoon, and the Magic Kingdom in the background. It was so incredible! I can't even explain. Every night the Wishes fireworks would take place and we could see them right from the patio, along with the magnificent Kingdom lighting up colors. It's just so pretty! The Polynesian is even more beautiful at night, when the tiki torches are lighting the walkways, and all you can hear is the Hawaiian music playing and the streams and waterfalls in the distance. There's hammocks to lay on at the beaches, it's so relaxing. There's also recreation, like boating and fishing, etc.
I'm sure you can tell that I love this Resort! You should really try it out, I'm sure you'll love it, too! The staff was so helpful and friendly. Every morning and evening greeting us "Aloha!" Disney's Polynesian Resort was one of the first Resorts that opened on the day the Magic Kingdom first opened, the other being the Contemporary Resort. It's a Disney classic!

It really depends on the budget. The resorts are nice, but here would be my preference.
Value- Pop, it is the newest of the values so it is going to be the cleanest. Movies would be my second choice. Sports and Music are a little older. Big benefit here is the price. You can usually get rates for less than $100 a night. The extra convience of being onsite is nice and you will get to where you want to go a lot quicker than being offsite. Plus, it gives you the extra perks for being onsite.
Moderate- Coronado has a "deluxe" feel to it. It is a conference resort and has a lot of business people staying there, so it is a little quieter and very nice. You can get rooms for about $130 a night for a moderate. It is a nice upgrade from the values if you can afford it. They are quieter, a little larger, fewere groups, etc.
Deluxe- There are so many nice resorts that it is hard to choose. Both Wilderness and Animal Kingdom are the lowest priced resorts. At both, I don't recommend the standard rooms. If you stay at Animal Kingdom you should upgrade to Savannah, that is the reason to stay there and the standard room at Wilderness just isn't in a good location. But, my favorites are Polynesian and Yacht and Beach Club. But all the deluxes are great, you really can't go wrong.
Villas- Again, they are all nice. But, I prefer Saratoga, I love the location. It is nice being right by Downtown Disney. It gives you lots of dining options and more shopping ;-) Beach Club is also great, it is really nice being right by EPCOT so you can walk there. Boardwalk you can walk to EPCOT or MGM, so you have a lot of options as well.
You really can't go wrong, it just depends how much you want to spend. The main differences is the theming at most of the resorts. There are some obvious differences between value and moderate and moderate and deluxe.
I hope this helps!

It really depends on your budget and what you're at Disney world for.
If you just want a place to sleep because you're on the go all the time, then choose the Value Resorts like POP or All Stars.
Those hotels are basic, nice and inexpensive... around $79 per night, depending on season.
The hotel has a food court, swimming pool, gift shop and the bus system. The room has a bed, bathroom, sink, and storage area for clothes. There's no actual closet but there is an area with hangers, iron board and a safe.
If you are going to WDW to relax and use the hotel, then I'd splurge and stay in the nicer ones. There's all sort of hotels like the Polynesian, the Contemporary, to the upscale Grand Floridian. The more upscale hotels go from $159 and up per night.
You can also decide the location of your hotel. It really doesn't mater the actual location since the bus system is really nice, but say you want to be closer to the Epcot. Then, you should choose the Boardwalk or some resort closer to the Epcot park.

I RECEIVED YOUR COMMENT ON MY DISNEY VACATION BLOG AND AM A BIT CONFUSED AS TO YOUR RESPONSE. I LISTED BELOW SEVERAL GREAT DISNEY RESORTS AND I USED TO WORK THERE! I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU STATED, "Why would you make a vacation website about Walt Disney World when you don't even know anything about the Resorts on property?"
I know all of the resorts inside out. I hope you will re-visit the blog.
This, of course, would depend on a lot of variables. But here is a breakdown:
Best Disney Resort for families with children:
Disney All Star Resort (choose from music, movies, sports or pop culture). This is also Disney's economy resort.
Best Roamtic Getaways:
Animal Kingdom Lodge (most expensive)
Grand Floridian
Polynesian Resort
Best middle of the road priced Disney resort:
Coronado Springs
Yatch and Beach Club
Wilderness Lodge
Port Orleans
Personally, my favorite resorts are:
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Polynesian
and the Boardwalk Inn Villas Resort
For info and photos of all of Disney's Resorts, visit www.disneyworld.com
And if you would like help planning for your trip or would like any fun tips or ideas, check out my Disney Vacation Blog, I'm All Ears at:

Depends on the amount of money you want to spend. Resorts like the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and the Animal Kingdom Lodge are very expensive (at least I think so). Rates for those are well above $150-$200/night, but these are very nice and very close to the Magic Kingdom (except the Animal Kingdom Lodge). You can take the monorail to and from those resorts, or take a bus from there to the other parks.
The value resorts like Pop Century, Music, and Sports are well worth their value. They are having a special right now, $64/night. I'll put a link at the bottom of this answer. These resorts like all other Disney resorts have transportation to and from any Disney location you wish to visit (and the airport), so you don't have to worry about driving ANYWHERE!! No car rental necessary! I have stayed at Pop Century and it was great!! My friends like Sports. Everything is all in one place and they make it so easy for visitors, it is hassle free!

Tech Fanatic gave you an excellent response. My two cents - I love Port Orleans, which is a moderate-priced resort. Most folks I know find the Value resorts to be too bare-bones and compare them with a Motel 6. I've been told that it can take 45 mins to reach the parks if you're taking Disney transportation (buses) from there. Be careful if you splurge and go for the 'premiere' properties. We spent the night of our honeymoon at the Grand Floridian - a sentimental choice for me, and we didn't have to pay for the room. I wouldn't spend the money there - I'd go for the Wilderness Lodge - better value for a top-ranked Disney hotel.
That being said, I agree that there are great places to stay outside of the parks - you'll want to consider renting a car if you do that. Try tripadvisor.com and see what you get in the Lake Buena Vista/Kissimmee area. If you don't have your heart set on staying at a Disney resort, you may do much better elsewhere.
Have a great vacation!

None of them, they are ridiculously expensive and unecessary. There are thousands of great hotels in the area that are under $50 why pay $250 for a Disney resort?? Most are less than a 15 minute drive away. I can understand alittle difference for the onveniences but $200 + a day difference?? Try Howard Johnson's it's right off the highway and right next to Wet N' Wild waterpark.

As far as which park, it does depend of the kid's ages. I still prefer Magic Kingdom however, even though I am an adult!

The mid-price hotels are only slightly higher in price than the economy hotels, but are much more convenient and comfortable. It's a little extra money that is very well spent. There's not really any substantial difference between any two hotels in the same price range, just different themed decor, so choose according to location or something like that.
Location is important because the Disney transportation can be slow at busy times. For instance, if Magic Kingdom is your favorite park, you would want to stay at The Polynesian, which is within walking distance. Likewise, if eating your way around Epcot is priority, there are hotels within walking distance of Epcot's 'back' entrance. The French Quarter is very handy to Downtown Disney, and so on.

You gotta be kidding me...what are you looking for? Something family friendly, close to parks, cheap....Disney has it all, just remember the closer to the parks you get, the more $$ you'll be paying. I've stayed at the All Star Resorts before (Sports and Movies) and have been very pleased there, except with the bus service, which was HIDEOUSLY slow. We usually wound up driving our car to the parks, and since we were staying at a Disney resort, parking was free.
