Because people use religion in order to justify their actions. The bible is full of things that people can use to base wars and murder off of.

How else should we kill people?
I mean all the liberals are telling us the world is over populated. We are already killing millions of babies each year in the name of science to stem over population. Euthenasia is another way we can kill in the name of science. Why don't we kill midgets and ugly people? Science is trying to figure out a way to get rid of them. Soon we'll be able to know before a baby is born if it will be a midget or ugly person and we'll have the chance to abort them before they are born. What else can we kill? Maybe we should kill animals. Oh yeah science has already beat us to that one. If 1% are killed in the name of God and 25% are killed in the name of science, why are we so worried about God?

Humans need something to believe in!
Would you kill for your mother, your father, your boyfriend, your best friend!?
The answer is probably no!
But, would you kill if someone was trying to hurt your family member...probably yes!
So, some people love their God more than anything in the world. When they feel that something/someone is threatening their god..they act.
That is a simple answer, but it is the answer. They love so much that they hate!

because people get offended when what we believe in is opposed insulted and, or threatened. so we kill in the name of god as a belief of what is most I'mportant to us. so by killing his enemies we kill our enemies. so the short answer would be because we believe ourselves can be the hand of god and do his work and just so everyone is clear on this im an atheists

Because that claim cannot be disputed...
Belief in a fair just God will make for a very interesting "judgment day" - much better than American Idol...

No offense, but if you want less rude answers that actually explain your religious questions, well, let's just say Yahoo! Answers isn't the best place.

I don't think there is a good reason. To quote John Mellencamp, "be careful of those who kill in Jesus' name, he don't believe in killin' at all."

Justification and a hopeful alleviation of guilt and need to confess. All of which are misguided.
