MY ROOMMATE AND I HAVE BEEN DOWNLOADING FROM LIMEWIRE FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS...UNTIL SHE GOT A VIRUS WHILE DOWN LOADING. BUT SHE DID NOT HAVE ANY PROTECTION AT ALL, HER MCAFEY HAD JUST EXPIRED. BUT I NEVER HAD ANY FIREWALLS, AND I NEVER GOT ANYTHING.
BUT IM SURE IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME.
ALSO MY COUSIN WRECKED HIS PUTER FROM DOWNLOADING FREE MUSIC ALL THE TIME FROM DIFFERENT WEB SITES. HE FINALLY HAD TO THROW IT AWAY AND BUY A NEW ONE

It is actually not very safe, being that .mp3 files are vulnerable to infection just like any .exe or .com application. The best thing you can do if you really want to use Limewire, is to get the PRO version, disable sharing, and tell your virus scanner to keep a close watch on your music folder.

It is a game of russian roulette. You have to know what to look for. I downloaded a software that lets you make your own ringtones...it was not that program...it was a trojan. I have been downloading for 5 years and that was my first. But I did get fooled. So yes you can get viruses, but most times you get what you need.

take your risk...
when you are active and downloading, you are exposed on open network with your ip.
the software itself is safe, but there might be other users with bad intention.
coz there are some files, infected like virus, so, becareful..
but for songs.. it's quite ok i guess..
i am using for quite 3 years, and nothing much effected, i dl songs and movies.

As long as you have a virus protector, you should be fine. I find that any program that I download is corrupt, but I have not had any problems with music or videos.

But be sure to have an antivirus like ANTIVIR. I downloaded executable/zip files which have lots of virus!

Guard yourself before something might intrude to your system.

it's safe to download from everything if you don't do something stupid like open something without scanning it for viruses first. a little time wasted scanning can save you hundreds of hours formatting your drive
