Centre Alain Lemieux played 119 NHL games on three different teams in the 80s. He was a top scorer in junior who also found success in the minors and Europe. Part of his big league career overlapped with his famous younger brother, Mario.

The Montreal native was chosen 96th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 1980 after scoring 142 points for the QMJHL's Chicoutimi Sagueneens. He returned to for one last year of junior with the Trois Rivieres Draveurs and notched career highs with 68 goals and 166 points. His performance garnered a selection to the QMJHL second all-star team.

During his first pro season in 1981-82, Lemieux played three NHL games and scored 41 goals for the CHL's Salt Lake Golden Eagles. The next season he registered 34 points in 42 games for St. Louis and formed a solid line with Perry Turnbull and former 50-goal scorer Wayne Babych. Over the next two years Lemieux was a farmhand for the Blues and played a total of 36 NHL games over that span.

In January, 1985, the crafty pivot was traded to the Quebec Nordiques for Luc Dufour. Initially, he responded well to the move and recorded 22 points in the last 30 games of the season. He also scored three goals in the playoffs as the Nordiques eliminated the Montreal Canadiens on their way to reaching the semifinals. After spending the bulk of the 1985-86 season with the AHL's Fredericton Express, Lemieux joined his brother in Pittsburgh as a free agent. He only played one game with the club but notched 41 goals for the AHL's Baltimore Skipjacks and was voted on to the league's second all-star team.

After spending most of the next two years in the minors, Lemieux headed to Finland and played briefly with Karpat Oulu and Saipa in 1988-89. He sat out the 1989-90 schedule then played a year with the Albany Choppers and Milwaukee Admirals of the IHL before retiring.
