It was years ago when we were doing Travesties. Luis here thinks it unimportant.- Eet wass all a lon time ago. Yeah nuy no-one can tell me.

I know about the 5th column if thats any use. No? oh well never mind. Of course the 4th wall exists, all rooms have 4 walls, unless of course the room is triangular or circular. Did you know that a circular room doesn't have just one wall, it has an infinite number of walls. Learned that when I was at grammar school doing my GCE in geometry back in 1955. Amazing what you can remember. The probable reason you were given all those book-ends to nail to the 4th wall was because you were skiving at the time and they wanted to give you something to do. Hope you've learned your lesson. I can remember what the 5th column was, but what were the other 4?

yeah the fourth wall doesn't exisist but we like to see the illusion of reality. Thats why you had to nail book spines to wood to give the appearance of a real library. We pay to go see the illusion of reality although we know its just an illusion.
Think about how the stage would have looked minus the props and just the actors on stage. The props added to the show even if you thought the job was thankless.
As a patron of live theater I can tell you that I am amazed at some of the wonderful sets and realistic props that I've seen used.
