yes but mankinds intellect to use said knowledge decreases 1/2 every five years as well. Therefore we are acumulating vast tetrabites of knowedge on databases throughout the world while all the while our ability to think is diminishing. That is why the ancinet greeks acomplished more intelectulaly than modern generations have.

There have only been 27 elementary inventions and only 1 of them (the "rollomite") was discovered in the 20th century.
Most of science for the last 100 years has been footnotes to the periodic table of the elements (the grand slam of the sciences).
Furthermore, the public seems to be getting STUPIDER in the G7 (idiotic European opposition to genetic engineering and America's whopping 30% dropout rate and soaring fundamentalism, as examples).
DATA --sheer unsorted, often junk, information --that's what's doubling every 5 years.

I don't know if that is the exact rate or not, but it is growing fast. You might enjoy reading "The Singularity is Near" by Ray Kurzweil. He talks about the accelerating rate of technology and it's inevitable outcome.
