I mean we read and hear of many people discrediting and disclaiming Bush and many ridicule him in public and in public forums yet when Dixie Chicks do this some sort of patriotic rage comes out and Dixie Chicks is looked down upon. I'm not their fan b/c I don't listen to their music but I'm trying to figure out the logic here. Maybe there is something they did I do not know about that is extremely different and vulgar than what most of our citizens already are to our Pres.... I just want to know.
Serious question and i would like an objective answer.

Thanks!

The Dixie Chicks, as musicians, appeal to a class of people who also happen, as a class, to have certain political beliefs. The Dixie Chicks spoke out against the beliefs of the people who supported them as musicians. Many of their fans take offense at their remarks. The Dixie Chicks have a right to express their beliefs; their customers have a right to take offense.

It's really not about what most people think of Bush or policies. It's what that very small percentage of the population that patronizes the Dixie Chicks thinks that's important. The Dixie Chicks can make their loyal fans dislike them and listen to other country artists with their remarks, but it won't work the other way very often. Classical music lovers won't start buying Dixie Chicks album because they share Dixie Chick political views. Unfair? Well, that's life.

The Dixie Chicks aren't being singled out for ridicule. They just invited backlash by taking a political stand that would offend their fan base. It's getting attention because most people aren't stupid enough to do that. If you'll notice, the president & ceo's of major corporations don't use their positions, typically, to bash politicians and policies (at least not those that don't impact on their business interests). Why? Because it only alienates some percentage of customers. If the Dixie Chicks was to keep their customers, they should not be taking political positions that will upset their customers. Most people don't care about the politics of actors, musicians, plumbers, barbers, and/or candlestick makers. But when those folks express an opinion, they do so at the peril of someone taking offense. Would you keep going to a barber who spoke out against things that you believe in? Probably not. Most people seek out others with similar views or, at least, avoid people with dissimilar views.

It's no different with any other celebrity. When they take a side on any matter, but especially politics, or religion, etc., they are going to please half the people and make the other half mad. My thing is this, I used to like their music and I respect their freedom of speech, but I don't agree with their opinions. I could care less if you're the Dixie Chicks or just some person on the street, because we're all human. But, with people like them and other celebs that are constantly in the limelight, the views they express can have devastating effects or positive effects on their career.

Honestly, I think it's because they are women. They are the most popular female act in the world, and if a guy made that comment, no one would have even thought twice, and there is no way something like that would have been printed. The Dixie Chick sell out every place they play and their CDs have consistently debuted at number one. They didnt set out to be political, they just made that one comment right before the US dropped bombs on Iraq. They dont hate being American, I think they are as patriotic as anyone else. They were in England where --imagine this--not everyone wants to be American. What a concept! There were alot of anti-American feelings flying around over there, and they said they were ashamed that Bush is from Texas. I guess the rednecks turned that into an anti-American campaign on the part of the Dixie Chicks, which is really stupid. So is it really just a bunch of stupid rednecks running this country? All they do is drink beer, watch NASCAR races, shop at Walmart, talk about how Daddy fought for the freedom of speech for us in Vietnam (although how those rights were in danger from Vietnam eludes me). In other words, the government wants us to be a bunch of ignorant rednecks so they can mind control us into thinking that whatever they tell us is the truth.

I burned all my Toby Keith CDs after he made his derogatory comments about the Dixie Chicks.

Well here is my problem with the Dixie Chicks, specifically Natalie Mane (sp?). She gets up on stage and says she is embarassed that the President is from Texas. That's all fine and dandy, that is her right. However, when some country music fans decided to boycott the Chicks and not buy their music, Mane (sp?) cried that it wasn't fair that people stopped buying her music because of her political view. Literally cried.

As the President stated when asked about it, freedom is a two way street. Mane and the Chicks have the right to state their political views, however, their fans have a right not to buy their music because of that. Don't make statements if you aren't willing to accept the consequences.

Because most of their (past) fans are red-necks that blindly follow. They made a dumb remark about being embarassed Bush was from Texas and alot of red-necks got angry. so much so that they didn't want dixie chicks music played on the radio.

Two lessons
- Just because we have free speech doesn't mean there aren't consequences.
- Red-necks and other reds like to fly the flag and talk about freedom but don't dare express that freedom doing something they don't like. You're free as long as you do what they want.

I respect their right to have such political views, even if I disagree with them vehemently. But to slander the US President while on FOREIGN soil is wrong (not to mention stinks of cowardice), especially in this day and age when those who want to kill us are looking for every reason to tear our country apart--and if from within our own people, all the better. I wouldn't support anyone doing that to those politicians I can't stand, either. It's just not right and I think they showed very poor judgment and taste. If they disagree with the President, let them do it within our borders or even run for office. Other nations should see us as United but able to have differing opinions and the ability to express those opinions respectfully.

The reason is very simple.
It makes us look like fools to have these idiots go to a foreign country and degrade our country. If they had done the same thing within the US, it would not have been bad. There is nothing wrong with having different opinions. It is all about how you go about expressing them.

HI,,, I will tell you.. I wrote my congressman and senator before we went into Iraq and voiced my opinion.. against it.... since having been in the 1st desert storm......i got one.....

Now,, I am a true blue American,, i love my country and we have to suck up and do things we dont like sometimes...like a war... no one wants....

But,, these Actors and Entertainers that use their names to sound off on something,,, that is clearly anti-American,, is not to be stood for.... If you have something to say,, say it to the person,,, not to your audience to get a ( atta boy or girl ) .....

Another thing,,, we here in the South,, are very very Patriotic,,, more probably that anywhere in America,,, and we dont like someone running down our country,, and usually country music singers are Southern and brought up to respect the Red , White, And Blue........ even the Stars and Bars....... You just dont air out your dirty laundry in public.....

Those Winches that call themselves Dixie Chicks,,, can go to the dogs as far as I am concerned ,, they are no different than that Jane Fonda,, ie " Hanoi Jane" during the Vietnam War....

Hope this helps....

good luck...

It is just the redneck repuke's that do it, anybody that is against Bush is unpatriotic don't you know. Which is another repuglican lie. People that oppose the worst president in history are some of the bravest and most patriotic in the country, many of them have been to Iraq and has fought in his foolish war.
