For example, whenever someone refers to an American, it always gets broken down to black, white, etc. But places like brazil and puerto rico where theres a big mix, they are all just called brazilians or puerto ricans. Do you think Americans will eventually have their own disinct look and culture in 100 or more years?

Trust me honey Blacks in Brazil and Puerto Rico are still referred to as ****** and people mixed with native Indians and Spanish are called Mestizos. The " I am Brazilian" and " I am Puerto Rican " crap only works when they come to America. Back in their original countries the differences are pronounced especially in Cuba. They are very racist against Black people there.

"Race" is largely a fiction of the 19th Century. Apart from extremely gross differences in physical features, such as Black, Caucasian and Oriental, there are NO "races" as most people mean the term. To refer to "the English race," or the "Russian race" is to refer to ethnic rather than physiological differences.

"Race" didn't matter to most of humanity throughout almost all of history. It began to matter at the end of the 1700's when early scientists were attempting to classify kingdom, phylum, genus, and species of living things. The idea grew apace as a result of both the work of Darwin and that of Mendel, developing the foundations for genetics. Then the zany social philosophers leaped onto Darwinism and applied the idea to concepts Darwin never voiced - "social Darwinism," the New Age principles of the time, fake science and phony philosophy. Unfortunately, that led to eugenics, Nazism, and Jim Crow.

There will NEVER be an "American race." To even voice the idea is to express lack of knowledge about the actual matters of race, ethnicity, and national identity.

Since being American implies that your ancestory is a mix of nationalities, it improbable to say we will all look somewhat similar in the future. As each race of the earth changes, so does our composition as Americans. Not all Americans will have every nationality and few will have the same amount of that nationality in their blood as another. As time goes on, logic would tell us that we will look more diverse, not similar.

Think about this:

If you were 50 percent irish, 50 percent german and had children with someone 50 percent irish, 50 percent Chinese, then they would be 50% irish and 1/4 chinese..... later on down the line, offspring of each individual might be 1/32 chinese, 1/8 irish and still have other variables to fill in.

If they aren't, they should be. Race is not a color, as some would have us think. Race is a continent or country where a group of people are born. Chinese is a race. Africans is a race. Germans is a race. Mexicans is a race. Etc...etc. It is the American race who have chosen to divide us all by either color or ancestry. But, everyone born in America and those who are naturalized citizens, are of the American race

The problem with the US is that it is the ONLY country were people are classified under RACE (with the 'one drop' theory which is racist and does not allow mixing of race, its the black or white world ) instead of ETHNICITY. Go to Canada or any other country and people are classified under their ethnicity: Russian,Puerto Rican, Egyptians, French....

US needs to stop classifying people just because of the color of the skin and the 'one drop theory', this causes much racism and racial antagonism.

Everyone should understand the difference between race and nationality; between race and religion. Many people are ignorant of the differences and need to educate themselves. A jew is a race of people. They can be American, Israeli, Russian, Polish, African, or from any other "nationality". They may practice Judaism or they may be agnostics, Christian, or any number or religions. A caucasian is a race of people. They may be Chrisitan, practice Judaism or any other religion. They may be American or any other nationality. But practicing Judaism does not make you Jewish. If you're born a Jew, your a Jew for life. A ******* or ***** is a race of people. I suppose they came up with African-American for racial reasons - to get away from the terrible connotations of the "N" word, but to use a nationality to identify their race is incorrect. A ******* or ***** race of people can be from any nation as can any other race of people. Their ancestors may have come from Africa, but if their citizenship is in America, they're American. If their citizenship is in Canada, what do you call them African-Canadian, or African-Japanese if the're in Japan. What should caucasians be called, German-American, Norweigian-American, where do you stop????. Your nationality is where your citizenship lies.

not really because America is supposed to be a place for people of all races and nationalities who are expected to adapt to the American way of life. It's not really a race or one big 'race' of people. It's a culture of many different races and people.

With people mixing up relationships of different "cultures" in America, I can easily see this happening in the years to come.

They're referred to as Brazilian, but they are not called the Brazilian "race".

And no, I don't think we going to homogenize in that short a time.
