sorry but that statement was ridiculous!
pap smears are done to protect you. they can detect cancers, inflammatory disease in the uterus/pelvis and many other problems that, if caught early can save you a life time of misery.
if that's what you need to do to get on the pill you better do it, and get it done once a year too!

Yes, you really do have to get a pap smear in order to be prescribed birth control. The pap smear is done by a professional physician and there is absolutely nothing sexual about the process. The smear is necessary to determine the health of your reproductive organs and the correct dosage to use. Usually you should get a pap smear once a year in order to maintain healthy organs. After the first time it becomes routine, believe me. There is very little pain involved (if any); it's mostly a matter of modesty - and that can be overcome when you realize the procedure is pretty much like getting your sinus checked only on the opposite end. Please do not order birth control over the Internet. You will receive it, but how would you know you are taking the correct dosage? How would you know your reproductive organs are healthy enough to tolerate birth control pills?

yes, but if you are uncomfortable with a man checking you out try to seek a woman physican. Besides a pap smear does not hurt at all. I had to go on the pill to regulate my periods cause i was passing out everytime I was on it. And my cramps were unbearable and i felt like my body inside was on fire. And what if you have an infection a pap smear can scheck and you can check treatment. Even if you and your partner practice safe sex stuff happens and you could get an infection. I hope that helps.

A pap smear is something that all gynecologists require as way to check for disease that can be life threatening if you do not catch them on time. It isn't anything to be afraid of, it only takes a second....I have had to have them, and I can say that it is no big deal. I disagree that only your partner should go down there...a doctor must give you an exam including a pap smear so that you can make sure that you're healthy. Don't be afraid at all, just think of it as another thing a woman has just gotta do.

As a doctor, I can say, "Not necessarily."
The guidelines for when to do a Pap are complicated, based on age, sexual activity (or lack thereof), and other factors. In younger teens who are virginal, some doctors will start the pill for menstrual regulation without a Pap. This is a question to ask your doctor.
However, since you mention a partner, I'm thinking you probably need one. No, it isn't the most comfortable situation a woman can be in, but it really is important for your health (we doctors don't do it just for kicks -- it saves lives!)
Finally, if you are between age 9 and 26, you need to talk to your doctor about the new HPV vaccine that can prevent 2/3 of cervical cancer!

Yes, the dr wants to make sure that there are not nasty little things down there that could be made worst by the hormones in the pill. Sorry.

BTW: Pap smears save lives and prevent infertility by detecting cervical cancer and STDs. It is a good idea to have it done.

Think of it as a necessary evil.

Pap smears should be done every year if you are sexually active. They are not painful, just alittle uncomfortable. They are very neccessary part of keeping healthy. Cervical cancer can happen at any age.
You sound very young and inexperienced if you are asking this question. If you want the pill, you have to have the pap done. You will also have to have a pregnancy test first too.

Yes, in order to be placed on birth control you will need to have a pap smear.. Yes, it sucks but it only takes like 2 minutes, then you will just have to go back annually.

Umm, yeah, get the pap. Cervical cancer is nothing to sniff at. You could have a quiet infection that can mess you up inside, even if you haven't had sex. And, the pill can increase your risk of cervical cancer because of the hormones. You need to bite the bullet and get it over with. It's not as bad as you think.
