The interviewer is asking you to tell "a little bit about YOURself", therefore, I would answer with some personal, as well as business information. Personal information can tell a lot about how a person sees their career, their priorities in life and just what kind of person they are in general. When I was interviewing people for a job I used to manage, personal information was important to me when making decisions on hiring.

I would stick with things that pertain to the job unless they ask for more personal answers. If you feel it would be good to give personal information, relate it to the job, for example..." I love children and have 2 of my own/babysit 2, so I can multitask and deal with stressful situations."
I'm sure you will be able to tell what the interviewer is looking for by their personality. GOOD LUCK!

Pertaining to the job. "My name is wondering in Michigan, I graduated from XX University with a degree in XX. I started working at XX where I was a XX and then was promoted to XX. After realizing there wasn't any room to grow at company ABC, I left there and worked for XX as a XX where I . Although I love my current position, I am looking for new challenges and that is what interested me in seeking out this opportunity. (this question is to find out how well or not you are able to communicate).

you want to state both your interests and hobbies as well as what you can contribute to the job or whatever you are being interviewed for. ex: i am a fun energetic person who enjoys skydiving, playing cards, and playing catch with my son. I am also a very reliable person who is dedicated to my goals and am not afraid to take risks. by you stating hobbies and interests it shows what kind of person you are and you stating what your qualities for work are shows that you are confident in your skills.

I say I'm a lazy alcoholic slob who needs constant supervision.
But seriously I just tell them a little about my schooling and past jobs until they get tired of hearing it, and then they finally move on to the real questions that actually matter.
