My beau is in love with the gym. 2 hours a day, 6 days a week. He looks like a meat head, but intellectually he isn't one.

Sometimes, he's at a ten and I need him at a 2. He acts like a jerk and macho in front of my family/friends and says stupid sexist things,

"A woman's place is in the bedroom, not in the boardroom". I don't find this brand of humor funny, and later he retracts and says he was kidding.

I wonder if he feels insecure about my level of education. Regardless, I think he is very smart, like a Good Will Hunting kind of guy. Yet, he does it to get my goat, b/c I'm a professor. I love him, but sometimes I can't stand how crude he is.

I guess I should mention that he is a tradesman, and spend the majority of his time on job sites, the gym, and 16 inch softball fields in Chicago. He is only exposed to the "softer sex" when he is with me!
What advice do you have to help me watch his p's and q's without offending him(he's also VERY sensitive?

Absolutely nothing is wrong with men who like working out. A problem arises when it becomes an obsession and when it gets a greater priority than the girlfriend.

Listen - do you hear those warning bells? My opinion is anyone who is obsessed with building their body and acting "macho" is a little too self-absorbed for me. Education level is not really an issue. Plenty of people are intelligent without having a doctorate. He sounds like he is immature and self-centered. I would say "bye-bye" and find someone who will allow me to act in a normal way and to be myself.

That they're overcompensating for a specific shortcoming or are very insecure.
