My brother and the TV "tell" me something abount north american's life that I think it isnt true.

Ok... YOU work hard ( me to... I just stay more or less 9 hours in my home every day).

Some told me that american's life is like "The O.C.", just rich people.

I dont believe it. Then I ask to who really live in that place.
How about your choices to help the other people, do u make it?
Do you like friends? Do you kiss?
Oh my god.. american seems so bad when I see on TV.

How about the other people that go to your country?
Do you think that they're trash?

(Observation.: Dont be angy.. I just want take off from my head a doubt witch i have about yours life)

I was born on the eastern coast of the US, lived in Chicago as a child, in Asia for 7 years as an adult, and have been in Orange County (the "OC") for ten years now. I think there's almost as much cultural variation among the diffferent regions of the US as there is between many nations.

I don't think Americans as individuals are nearly as rich, spoiled and self-centered as our popular entertainment and our government's activities around the world would make us seem. I do wish more unbiased coverage of world issues would make it's way into the average home, but I don't think that will happen any time soon.

Most Americans would not consider someone trash because of where they come from--and that's one of our better traits. People are mostly judged by what they do and how they live their lives.

I think it's good that you're going to the source with your doubts about what you see in the media. Keep questioning what you hear and see, and keep seeking connections with others so that you can judge for yourself.

99.9% of Americans are NOTHING like what you see on TV. The shows spoof and exaggerate the life of most of us. Many Americans work way too hard, don't take/get enough vacations, and live pretty "common" lives of working, eating, sleeping, and spending time with family and friends.
