No really I mean it. I am looking for anyone's take on this. Would the world be in a better or worse position now if there were no United States?

Chaos and mayhem, with a lot more starvation and disease.
For better or worse, the world has historically looked to the U.S. to be the world's policeman and financier, as well as the world's grocery store and pharmacy.

The world would be worse off. You would probably be a Muslim.
Such is the nature of your question. You leave no alternative, or way to stop the takeover of the world by Muslims.
Britain is immaterial in this question. Do you know what the Muslim population of Britain is? They are very close to being like the Phillipines. They would deny this, but just check out how many Muslims live there. Don't forget to look at the transient numbers as well.
It is a mandate of the Koran for everybody in the world to be Muslim and worship Allah. If you don't believe me, just look at what happened to Somalia this summer. Mogadishu and Somalia are now claimed as Islamic, and the Muslims are bragging about it.
What's happened to most of the South Seas Islands--Muslim. The natives are in the process of being killed or reverted to Islam. You think I'm kidding? Watch what's happening in the Phillipines. Look at what happened to Malaysia and Indonesia.
If we don't stop the spread of Islam soon, it will be too late. Do you know what the Muslim population in the United States is now? Do you know what the Muslim population in South America is right now or Canada?
Do you know all the different countries around the world that have Mosques in them? Wherever there is a mosque, the land the mosque is on is a small Islamic state. Think about it. Read the Koran objectively. Notice the concept of unity, or what Muslims call the concept of one. Let me know if the world would be a better place after that.
Defenseless women and Children are being hunted by Muslims in Sudan. As long as the Darfurians are infidels or unbelievers it is okay for the JanjaWeed to kill them. An infidel or an unbeliever's life is worthless, decreed in the Koran. Do you know who is in Sudan besides the Muslims?
The Chinese are. That's why we aren't stopping the murder in Sudan/Darfur. George Bush is afraid of the Chinese and the Islamists. That's why the Bush Administration is impotent when it comes to North Korea--because of China.
A little food for thought from the pen of Hank. Do you know there are Chinese companies at each end of the Panama Canal? Most Chinese companies are nationalized. Do you know what that means? If we don't get out of our slumber of arrogance and denial soon...

The British would rule all of Africa except for the Mediteranian border countries. The Spanish would rule all of North America south of the current canadian border. The french would have canada. Israel wouldn't exist. Conflict between nations would still exist, just not on such a large scale. The reason for this is most modern technology was developed by US citizens. The only reason they were able to develop this technology is because they lived in a country where they were free to pursue their dreams. In other words, without the US, there would be no railroads, no cars, no radio, no TV, no computers, no internet. We would be only slightly ahead of where we were 200 years ago.
More specifically, you wouldn't be here to aks the question in the first place.

We'd be doing fine under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Little Georgie Bush The Liar would be the assistant manager in the Photo Department of his local Wal-Mart as he'd no longer be royalty.

I think overall the world would be a lot better, but just looking at more recent times it would be worse.
For example, if the US was founded in say 1965 and we took what we've done from then until now- that's BAD news.

there is no way of knowing that. also it depends on your ideas about better and worse and where you're looking.
for example, our american revolution inspired the french revolution. that is interesting, because the french monarchy supplied the army to help us defeat the english. and then their people were inspired to behead them. this is also why france is secular. their ideas about liberty were inspired by ours and because the king and church in paris were entwined, they were both deposed with the same fall of the guillotine. is that better?
i certainly think it's better, but so much would be different i don't think it is possible to consider all the changes fairly.
