Here's the deal. The people who actually get to investigate a crime scene might have a teensy bit of fun, depending on what you consider fun. However, I went to the Oregon State crime lab in Springfield, and basically your job consists of manipulating various $100,000 lab machines to give you data that you then have to interpret. The most exciting part of the lab was the room where they test-fire guns to check and see if the machining matches the bullet. Overall, a really boring job unless you love laboratories.

To make the show interesting, and keep the characters central to the story, they expanded the duties of a normal CSI. The crime scene and lab work is realistic, but CSI don't going around investigating the crime. They don't track down and visit suspects, witnesses, etc. Only police detectives do that.

You have to remember that you're looking at actors on CSI. That's their job and their job description is the ability to portray characters according to the circumstances set up for the scene by the script.

No. CSI is so fake you can't even began to compare the real job and the crap they show on TV. Please don't believe fictional shows are true. They are portraying characters to make money not to show the truth.

Some state law enforcement and Federal agencies.
Do have crime scene investigators.
But that's just a designation along with other duties as a police officer.

No, and lab results don't happen that fast, either. DNA results can take 6 months, if you get them at all. On the show, it seems to take 5 minutes to do this.

I highly doubt it. At least the dress code is not a true reflection of the job.
