Where will it be played and is it similar to the World Cup?

the 13th edition of European Championship finals will be staged in AUSTRIA & SWITZERLAND from 07 June 2008 to 29 June 2008. qualifications for the finals will begin on 16 August 2006 with 50 teams from all over Europe will compete to secure 14 places in the finals. The preliminary qualifying group has already been drawn back in January 2006.

each teams will play each other home and away from 16 August 2006 to 21 November 2007. the top two teams from each group will qualify for the finals along with AUSTRIA & SWITZERLAND, who are the joint-host nation.

Paraphrasing Croatia's coach The European Cup is the world cup minus Brazil and Argentina, but teams are becoming too defensive when they go to the big tournaments, if you can recall during the world cup most teams played with 4 defenders, 5 midfielders and 1 striker, that is a defensive lineup.
The best football nowadays is played during the finals of the UEFA Champions League. Pay attention to those matches, it will be a great introduction to Euro2008.

It's debatable whether the World Cup is better than the Euro Cup. True, you don't have teams like Brazil or Argentina in the tourney, but with that being said, you don't have teams like Ivory Coast, Iran, Togo, Costa Rica, Paraguay, T&T, etc. Therefore some might say the competition is stronger and the games are harder fought.
Bottom line, if you enjoyed the World Cup you'll enjoy the Euro as well.

It will be hosted by Austria & Switzerland.
The quality of the tournament is probably not as good as the World Cup, but definitely a notch above the several big European club competitions. This is because we don't see the top European powers competing with the South American powers, but otherwise it can be equally exciting, because the European national teams take it as seriously as if it's their second World Cup.
