Education is actually the work of a lifetime. Anything to excess is not good. So learning, studying, playing, all things have balance. Nothing should be done to any extreme. It is important for us as human beings to have a wide variety of experiences in our lives.

To prepare you with the skills you'll need in the "real" world. The fact is this is one of the only industrialized nations that has a 9 month school year and it has one of the worse educational systems. Maybe its time to do away with summer break completely because when you do graduate as some of you will, you wont be allowed to take summers off.

Because the time off at one time matched farming season so that children could help on the farm. Since this is no longer required it would make far more sense to have school continue for the entire year with no more than two weeks off. The point is to educate, not take time off.

At the same time, for those who don't wish attend school, they should be allowed to drop out at an early age so they won't bother those who actually want an education. Of course those who dropped out really would become second class citizens.

It just seems that way! You only go to school a total of 180 days,. That is all everyone goes for. The difference is the school year is broken up with vacations of a week or two so the year does seem longer. But no matter how they divide it, it's only 180 days long!
