all of your answeres are pretty good, and they are all right, your laptop/computer does not contain a router. there is a wireless button that you can press to detect any available wireless networks within 400 feet. But if you are asking about a router, well it works this way. internet comes from DSL, Cable modem into a router(router is used for one or more pc's) the router than connects to your pc. your router could be either Linksys, Netgear or any other brand, it normally haves multiple lights in the fron and what looks like a few tel. phone female connectors.
good luck

The router is a seperate piece of hardware than the laptop. Look where the cable comes out of the wall from a coaxial cable. It should go into what's called a cable modem, which then plugs into the router.

It depends on what type of laptop you have, but I think it's usually towards the top of the keyboard. And it's not a router, it's a wireless assistant.

The router is a separate device that directs and connects traffic to and from an internet or an intranet. and to and from any computer using that immediate network It is not a part of any computer, nor is it a part of your laptop.
