Yes. Could be the government nosing around or creditors wanting to know if you know their phone number or if they are employed etc. They look in reference phone books like the CrisCross to see who lives next to the people who owe them money. Basically they are trying to get you to do their job of finding their phone number and any information neighbors may blab about.

Hi...
I would ask them to give you a number so you could call them back to make sure they were for real...
If they are from the state ..it could be DSS..or social services..Does the neighbor have kids...? or do you have kids? Sometimes the state also makes you aware of pedifiles...or child molestors living in your neighborhood....(in some states)....
Did you ask your other neighbors if they have had any calls?
good luck..be honest and truthful....

Stay out of it, it could be anything from a bill collector to some one looking to settle a score, talk to your neighbor if you feel comfortable about it, and you might want to get an unlisted number.

It could be the FBI and they can get anyones number they want. When my friend needed clearence to enter Cuba they called all of her neighbors including my mother and father asking about her, and about me because we were always together. They ask about activites, where we went who we hung out with etc. Everything must of checked out cuz she went to cuba.

This is an end run. GO TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS !!! They are trying to find them. If they call you back, tell them to not bother you anymore and hang up. Why help someone that calls and you didn't solicit them ???
It may only be a credit card company trying to collect a debt.

no not to me, ever ever. do a reverse search of the number in whitepages.com in case it's from a legitimate agency like the police or something, but i doubt it, because anyone legitimate will at the very least identify where they're calling from.

Similar, but not quite like it. It is scary when it happens though. You start to wonder what kind of people your new neighbors are.
