My 2 mo. old is on Zantac & Nutramigen, still spitting up excessively. Sometimes its like a fountain when he does this. He eats about every 2-3.5 hours, 3-4 oz. He is gaining weight good. We have tried adding ceral but it seems to cause him some pain with cereal. He is colicky, which it seems to have helped that a little. We hold him up for quite some time after eating, he even sleeps in a car seat some or his swing, upright with no movement and he continues to spit up even 1-2 hours after eating. I feel sorry for him becasue it seems there is nothing I can do to help him. Any ideas. I've heard about seeing a chiropractor, what do they do? I have not seen a Ped. GI should we?
Thanks!

You could try a chiropractor or a massage therapist who does cranial sacral therapy.

My daughter had reflux also. She was never on medications, they just told me to reduce the amount of formula I give her at a time and increase the number of feedings. She was eating anywhere from 3-6 ounces every 3-4 hours around 2 months. They had me feed her 4 ounces every 3 hours. She didn't like it at first, but got used to it. Also, like you already know, they said to keep her upright for 45 minutes to an hour after a feeding. She would still spit up sometimes even after that. She slept in her swing every night (not moving) until she was 4 1/2 months old because it was the only place she would sleep, I'm sure do to the pain of laying flat. I started giving her rice cereal in her bottle at night at 2 1/2 months. It seemed to help with the reflux some, but took her a while for her tummy to accept it. It seemed every other night for the first couple weeks was the best as it allowed her tummy a break from the digesting in between. I started her on fruits and veggies at 4 months wit her Dr's ok and after a couple weeks she seemed much better. She now sleeps in her crib all night (yippee) on a wedge, so she is still somewhat upright. She has not had a problem with the reflux for about a month and a half now. Just hang in there, it does get better with time!

My son has reflux, but does not take medication for it. He is on soy formula thickened with rice cereal. He's almost 1 yr. old now, and has pretty much stopped spitting.

When he was first born I took him to his Dr. probably 5 times in the first 3 months because I was worried about him. They told me that babies pretty much outgrow reflux and there is not much they can actually do for it. In an 8oz. bottle he gets 3-4 teaspoons of rice cereal mixed in and that helped. He's almost 1 yr. now and has pretty much stopped spitting a few weeks ago.

He'll outgrow it, but it's messy in the mean time...good luck!!

I had the same problem...my pediatrician said that there is really nothing you can do about it. You have to wait till they groe out of it. Its the sphincter at the top of the stomach that doesn't close properly. This comes with age. Maybe they can up the dose of zantac. I wouldn't be giving him cereal at 2 months old...that is just going to make the problem worse. If its any consolation...my son grew out of it at aboutthe time he started sitting up on his own...so about 6 or 7 months

If he's 2 months he should be beginning to grow out of it by now. You can get medicine that helps, it doesnt stop them spitting up completely though. But I used to always let my son sleep in his car seat at night. Its horrible I know cos you feel helpless, and you pretty much are until his muscle strengthens with growth.

My doctor perceived a spacial formula I had to get at the pharmacy and I am sorry I cannot remember the name but she was also on the same meds. I would ask your Doctor if there is any formula that could be prescribed. Also at that time I was on wic and the doctor wrote a letter to them which they covered as the formula was $28 a can. I wish you the best.
