remember grandma is a girl, so was once young also and got her period. tell her and she will help you. just because grandma is older does not mean that she does not know about her period. yes you are starting your period. now you are a woman. I never went swimming when I had my period, thank goodness I don't get it anymore. I am a mother with children.

hey sweetie,
for one, i would go w/everyone's advice on here and tell your grandma.... if you feel really uncomfortable talking to her about it directly, maybe you could call your mom and have her tell your grandma?
also, if it is your period (sounds like it, and it could take a few hours to a few days to really get heavy), you can absolutely go swimming -- you'll just need to wear a tampon instead of a pad. have your grandma take you to the store to pick some up. try a small sized one first -- a great one for teens is Tampax's "slender regular," which absorbs as much as a regular one, but is slimmer for a first-timer).
if you don't feel comfortable w/trying a tampon, you should probably stay out of the water till your flow is over, so as to avoid an embarrassing mess, hehe
good luck girl... and congrats on your first period! :)

My grandma is a woman, and she had periods once! She understands and may buy you some pads, tampons, etc.

You're probably just spotting. You're fine. Go ahead and go swimming if there's no more blood tomorrow.
