don't let those crazy kids tell you that firefox is better. it will be someday but now internet explorer can do things without adding plugins to it that require plugins in firefox.
try viewing sites like http://www.dhtmlcentral.com in firefox. dhtml requires a plugin in firefox and their version of dhtml is really bad.
i do admit though your photos will look better in firefox. but your pages will load faster in internet explorer.
try visiting the following site in internet explorer the go there in firefox and you won't believe how bad it looks in firefox

A new browser will be uncomfortable until you are accustomed to it. I have used all three, and I find Mozilla Firefox the most comfortable. If you don't like the appearance or how it runs, then you can download themes and extensions to change that. Those things are not very easy to change on Internet Exploiter or Netscape.

For a beginner and novice:
IE and/or Mozilla Firefox
Netscape used to be very easy to use but has gotten a bit complex than needed
IE comes standard in all Windows so it is very prevalent to use and accustomed to
Mozilla Firefox is like IE but less malware present to hijack it

ROCK ON! Firefox is overhyped, it's not trash, but people are treating it like a godsend. IMO, Opera is way better than FireFox, and Opera has been proven to be safer than FF. I'd recommend Opera, but still, most browsers are safer than IE, but IE can view more pages correctly.

IE6 SP 2 is much improved. Firefox is very good for research.
Not impressed with Netscape, I deleted it.
IE7 is available in beta.
