I don't think we all regard Islam as evil, but I do think that we see some peoples' interpretation of the Koran as wrong ... just as we see some peoples' interpretation of the Bible as wrong ..

I believe it's the few extremists that label the religion. The Islamic religion is fine, but a bit more violent than most other beliefs. Those exteremists take the Koran and they take it word for word, and execute it in the same fashion. The way one must read the Koran, or any holy book, is to consider that some of the info is exaggerated or just stories to enhance the overall moral. One must distinguish the literal and figurative parts of holy books to get the message.
The Islamic extremists arte so faithful that they'll believe the word of the Koran is true, and that every wortd must be followed as written. Faithfulness isn't wrong, but how people take their faith, literally or figuratively, makes all the difference.
It may also be our reputation. The USA is great, but that greatness inspires arrogence, and that makes enemies. We maybe the savior of the planet, but over there we are hated and cursed. The attacks against us are a result of this hatred.
The US is grand, but not without the cost of death. So it was, is , and always will be.

it seems to come down to the crusades all happy until the catholic church stuck there beak in and up set the apple cart.since then the west and the middleast have been at tender hooks.the muslims seem to believe though not all of them think this that they are the only religon to live in this world.and christains seem to thing the same it is just a few crazy people on each side that course the violence.i cannot see why each side cannot live in harmony.you would have thought that after the wars that have happened over the years the bllod shed and the death of all innocent people that man would have learned by these.i would not be surprised the reason why the west is so intrested in the miidle east is oil.and bush is keeping up big daddys war.of course you have loose cannons like binladen feeding young men with rubbish dying for the course to become marters.yet these people never do the fighting them selves they get innocent people to fight and die for there believes.the world is crazy

Let me just state for the record that I belong to no religious group but really, that last answer was soooo fully ignorant I felt compelled to respond! The terrorists of 911, although claiming to belong to Islam, do not speak for all it's followers the same way one woman does not represent the views of the entire female population! That is why when mentioned in the news the word 'extremist' usually follows that of Islamic. To say that 911 is proof that Islam is evil shows the exact same knid of narrow mined prejudice that the 911 terrorists showe to the western world, it's all that "You guys are all the same" mentality. Do me a favour and read up ona religion before making a snap judgement. I did. (took me so long to type this that others have responed since, sorry guys, Im replying to an earlier entry :))

Someone answer to this question mention 911.(nasnoela)
911 was not Islam, every booming champagne, every solider shoot dead or hostage taken, these are acts perpetrated by men, Viewed as Honourable men by there country men, fighting against an oppressive nation(USA).
America declared war on a country rich with oil claiming that
they were looking for weapons of mass destruction, Weapons a lot like the ones the Americans used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the 6th Aug 1945 were 80,000 people were killed and several thousands more died from H boom related illnesses.
The new scientist mag have released a report (that can be found on Wikipedia)the report has new findings that say the Americans had an other agenda when they dropped the boom on Hiroshima.claims have it that the Japanese were try to restore peace.Vietnam also felt the strong and force full hand of America. Many people in the US were apposed to this war. Muhammad Ali was jailed for refusing to fight in this war
The Philippine's 1899-1913 16000 soldiers killed and 1,000,000 civilians died. Invasion and war seams to be the answer America gives to anyone that will not dance the US tune.
A tune that is sung by G. Bush in all his speeches were he makes many references to God, as a means to justify the crimes of his country.
Islam is no more evil than Christianity, Judaism, Hindi
or any religion taken up by an individuals beliefs. There are many Islamic states on earth. Muslim's are in Africa, turkey, Saudi,Morocco, Pakistan,Afghanistan and many more countries round the world why were they not invaded?
NO OIL, NO OIL, NO OIL, NO OIL, NO OIL
I believe that we need to see that beliefs of others should be respected by all. many holy books bare reference to other faiths and this is what I believe the holy Grail to be. mankind have searched the earth throughout time for it. But it is not a cup in the physical sense. But one the whole world can drink of its knowledge.

I dont think many people who are well read think that Islam is evil. The problem lies in people who are not well read and who believe what they are told without questioning it.
The problem can be turned around by looking as you have at the Koran to see it is basically a peace loving book. A book which is twisted by Islamic extremists, who are few in number, and used as the catalyst to send poor misled idealistic muslims to their death, and the deaths of the innocents they take with them.
Because these extremists hold the Koran up as there reason for these acts people believe the koran is evil, not knowing that the taliban and al quaida are more of a political movement than a religious one

Islam is no more evil than any other religion. They just seem to have an excess of fanatics at the moment that take things to the extreme. Look at the history of religions like Christianity or Catholicism and you will see alot worse. The crusades, inquisitions, etc. You still see the occasional religious crackpot in the US, as in the fanatic that decides to open fire on a Planned Parenthood building. I love how people justify a death with another death.

i agree with you..i was raised christian and never thought i would change my mind...well a few years ago i met this wonderful man (my husband) and after a while i learned he was lebanese and muslim..i was shocked i assumed muslime men beat women and forced them to cover themselves and do un-godly things..i wud have never guessed he was muslim....so after a while i started taking an interest in it (i waa never pushed by him or told i had to become his religion)..i read books and eventually the koran and it was relieving it made a lot of sense!!! and muslim families have good values and are close knit..how can a religion where women freely chose to cover their bodies in the name of their religion be a bad thing?
people get bad images of islam through extremist groups who show bad examples and the media likes to show off the bad things. BUt they never show how these familes are so strong and the marriages last and all the good things..people who believe this religion actually follow it u can tell that by the women who cover up...a long time ago in christianity women did that look at old movies about jesus..are women wearing tight dresses and high heels? nope...the koran does make sense if people wud just give it a chance.

It's not Islam, per se, that I see as evil. It's the fundamentalists that have turned their religion into an evil thing, to commit jihad against us infidels (non-Muslims). They have twisted their religion into a tool of hate and murder. They want to wipe us off the face of the earth.
I've had some interesting conversations with Muslims. We've respected each others religion and just talked.

NO we don't think Islam is evil. It only a small (very small) per centage of mis-guided idiotic moron radicals that have twisted the Koran to mean what they want it to mean.
Typical-Hezbollah (or however you spell it) fired SEVENTY rockets into Isreal before Isreal responded. Now Hezbollah is saying Isreal isn't playing fair !!! Get a grip ! Oh, by the way, Cirac of France agrees with them !!! He can't even take care of his own pathetic counrty !

Because the voice of Islam is invading African countries, raping the women and sending the children to war, and killing anyone who is not islamic. Because take a look at what the islamic states are doing, sending terrorists to kill innocent people to pursue expansion of islam, it's kind of hard not to have a dark view of that religion.
