Chances are that it isn't a problem. However, as a general rule, you should exit any programs before installing software, especially security software. When you install software, your security software detects changes to the registry and program files and blocks it. Why? Because the security software thinks viruses or spyware is being added and, therefore, it will block it.

It is best to have only one antivirus program at a time on your computer. Otherwise they get confused and may detect each other as spyware or virus just because of both programs trying to do the same thing at the same time.

If you are downloading and installing via the internet, you do need to have your anti-virus program up and running. It should not interfere with the download. If you have the CD, shut down computer, disconnect your modem/internet connect cable, disable your anti-virus program, download and install the software from the CD, re-enable your virus software. Shut down computer, reconnect your internet cable and reboot.
