Don't pretend to know what to do if you really don't. All cash registers are different, so they will teach you everything you need to know. However, be prepared to be started off cleaning tables and bathrooms. They normally don't start people out as a cashier right away. That's reserved for people that work there for awhile and prove themselves to be a good worker.
Just go in there as if it were any other interview and do your best. Don't expect them to ask you anything about the register or things in the kitchen because if there's anything you need to know about that, they will teach you. They'd rather just show you themselves than let you assume you can do it on your own. I'll post some interview tips for you from another question I answered. Hold on.
-Always dress nice for an interview, it's always better to overdress than underdress, even if it is a casual place.
-Make sure your shoes are shined. Sounds silly, but apparently it's a big deal. We had a speaker come to my college and was talking about interview things and it's one of the top 5 most important things (for most employers) because it shoes you care about things.
-Always shake hands firmly and look them in the eye. Sit straight-up. Practice your answers so you don't stutter or mumble or say "um" a lot.
-Always talk about your good points, don't mention bad points.
-Ask the employer questions too. It shows that you understand the job and care about what you're going to be doing. And also research it before you go. KNOW what the company does and why!!
-Afterwards, ALWAYS send a Thank You not IN THE MAIL (not e-mail) after an interview or an application review to show you are really interested in the job. It helps them remember who you are and shows that you are polite, responsible, and see things through.
-There's others, those are just some ideas.
The smallest things can sometimes make it or break it for you.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!! (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ann7UN3xIVgZsY.gO8wKg33sy6IX?qid=20060619191848AAYIlqu)

Aw honey...they will teach you that when you start working there. I know you want to get ahead of the game, but you can't. The buttons on the cash register will say what it is. I worked at KFC for two years and if someone ordered a number one...I'd push the button that said "#1 1pc breast meal". It's very easy to learn. Just pay close attention to your trainer and act eager to learn. You'll catch on in no time. No worries.

McDonalds will give you the proper training, what is really important is that you ask every possible questions you have in order to obtain all possible information and your margin of error diminishes by far.
Since this is your first job you will be able to absorb everything you see and feel without the prejudice that comes with experience, so, enjoy your first job, you take care...and as soon as you get the know-how a possibility of a promotion will be on its way...be patient!

Most places like McDonald's have a set pay rate so it doesn't matter what you already know when you start...your pay will be the same.
Also, every register is different so the only thing you can do is go in on the first day ready to learn.
Good Luck!

They train you on all that stuff. I wouldn't want them to think I knew everything....where did you get that knowledge? Were you behind the registers when a friend of yours was working? Crap like that goes through a managers mind. Make a good impression and show up 5 minutes early. Skip the cologne as well. It drives me crazy when people show up smelling like the barely survived drowning in a vat of the stuff.
Good luck to you!

Pookie, that's taken care of as you are trained. You don't really need to go into Mickey D's knowing how to operate their cash registers.
