We had this problem several years ago at our old home, the ants were horrible, you couldn't leave anything out or it would be covered with ants in the morning. I was told to put baby powder in doorways, windows, etc. I laughed when I heard this but it worked, and all we did was put it by the doorways, we did it one summer and never had ant problems again!!!

Use either uncooked grits or boric acid. The grits get carried back to the nest, the ants eat it and upon any drink of water they swell and rupture internally.
The boric acid comes in contact with them, they take it back to the nest, all others that contact them die... they ALL die.
That IS what you want isn't it?

Any sort of powder - flour, baking soda, powdered sugar will keep ants out. They don't like powder on their feet.
Seems strange, but a good way to get rid of pests and keep aniimals and children safe.

Borax and brown sugar molecules appear to be the same to ants and roaches. I would put it where your dog won't lick it up, but the needed quantities shouldn't make her sick if she gets a little.

Home Depot sells a clear spray that once dry will not harm pets or people. I highly recommend it.
