Basically what you need to do is anaylse the song TORN by Natalie Imbuglia.I need you to anaylse each paragraph telling me what you feel this song is about.

I thought I saw a man brought to life
He was warm
He came around
And he was dignified
He showed me what it was to cry

Well you couldn't be that man I adored
You don't seem to know
Or seem to care
What your heart is for
I don't know him anymore

There's nothin' where he used to lie
My conversation has run dry
That's what's going on
Nothings right
I'm torn

I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn
You're a little late
I'm already torn

So I guess the fortune tellers right
I should have seen just what was there and not some holy light
But you crawled beneath my veins
And now, I don't care
I have no luck
I don't miss it all that much
There's just so many things
That I can't touch
I'm torn

There's nothin' where he used to lie
My inspiration has run dry
That's what's going on
Nothing's right
I'm torn
Chorus

First, I recall reading that Natalie Imbruglia didn't write the song herself; it is actually a cover from another band. Obviously, she 'gets it' as she's done an amazing job of making it her own. I interpret the song to be about the disappointment that sets in when you see someone you had been intimately involved with for who they really are, and not who you had taken them to be. Illusion and imagery are predominant in the song and are combined with the idea of not being able to discern what is real, or who to trust. E.g. Do I trust myself? I was wrong - he's not who I thought he was. Do I trust the fortune teller? Logic says I shouldn't, but seems she was right. "There's just so many things I can't touch" could be interpreted as "If I can touch it, then I can know it to be real, and I can trust it. I don't know what is real, I don't know who to trust, and I am disappointed when I misplace my trust." "There's nothin' where he used to lie My inspiration has run dry That's what's going on " These lines speak to the discovery of the "truth" and the dissolution of an inspiration that was based on a lie. Oh, and the obvious heartbreak that goes along with all that, of course... The beauty of songs is that they are open to interpretation and everyone will see them differently. This is the basis of what I see in "Torn." Suggest you be more specific if you're looking for more insight on a particular line. Oh, and trust your own opinions on this, there's not really a wrong answer.

It sounds like shes upset because she has found a man that she thought was perfect, she should have seen what he was instead thinking he was perfect " should've seen just what was there and not some holy light" Now she realizes that hes not the man she thought he was. She's ashamed of herself for not seeing the real him. "theres nothing where he used to lie" I think she means her heart. Now theres nothing. Theres so many things she sees now that she missed in the beginning he dug into her heart so deeply and hurt her so bad that shes torn on the inside. He turned into something real but not what she wanted him to be. Thats how I see the song anyway. Hope this helped ^-^

Basically:

She meets a man and she thinks he's great at first as she gets to know him she realizes that this illusion she had of him being perfect(holy light) is not real so she is torn becasue she want this man to be what she thought he was but he is not in real life but she got involved with him anyway.. I think shes still hoping he will change to be that "prince"

I love that song. I think it's about a woman who's idolised her lover, and seen him as she wished he really was. Then after getting to know him better and thus realising that he was quite the opposite, she feels torn...

Oooooooh, love that song. I think it means, she picked all of these young immature guys who screwed her over. Then when the right man comes along, she has been hurt by so many....she cannot trust and love the right mature man.

She probably doesn't know herself since she didn't write it.

It looks to be about a man she loved who went cold on her and left.

I've analysed it and the only explanation is she fell in love with a corpse and now "he" has sadly decomposed.
