Hi Butler - me too. I found by dumping temporary internet files, it helped speed it up. As we know, the more the computer has to remember, the longer it takes. Best of luck!

You can speed up the computer by removing the system restore. It takes up a lot of ram and removing it will result in a significant increase in the performance.

It is also possible that you might be suffering from viruses. If you computer has slowed down recently I would strongly recommend reinstalling Windows and not going to the internet without several antivirus programs.

Here's a few simple steps:

Delete unused files from your hard drive. If you have a program that you're no longer needing, go ahead and uninstall it. Also defragment your drive from time to time. I defrag mine every month or so.

Install more RAM. This will make programs run more smoothly and a bit faster.

Upgrade your CPU/motherboard. This is the most effective way to speed up your computer, and also the most expensive.

There's only two ways to speed up a slow computer: overclock it, or replace the processor with a faster one. Although, I do recommend having 1GB of RAM these days, even if you don't plan on doing any gaming with your system.

If you DO plan on gaming with it, then replacing your video card (or buying one, if you don't have one) will definitely make more of a difference than having a faster processor.

Some extra ram might help easy to put in yourself, or have the processor upgraded for a faster one.
