I would ask your doctor but most will say it is just fine if you have 1 glass every once and a while. Mine told me it was ok to have 1 glass(no more than 1) about once a week. I am not a big wine drinker so I didn't drink any alcohol while I was pregnant. Red wine is good for the heart as well as other organs. I would ask your doc before drinking any wine. I know many pregnant women who drank a glass of wine with dinner each night to me thats over doing it but all their children turned out just fine.

All the reference books that I've read say that if you drink more than 3 glasses a day then you need to cut back. Most OBGYN's suggest no alchol what so ever. And the Midwives I had didn't mind 1 or 2 a week. But if you are worried, err on the side of caution and don't drink at all.

From the March of Dimes website...
Although many women are aware that heavy drinking during pregnancy can cause birth defects, many do not realize that moderate—or even light—drinking also may harm the fetus. In fact, no level of alcohol use during pregnancy has been proven safe.
When a pregnant woman drinks, alcohol passes swiftly through the placenta to her fetus. In the unborn baby’s immature body, alcohol is broken down much more slowly than in an adult's body. As a result, the alcohol level of the baby's blood can be even higher and can remain elevated longer than the level in the mother's blood. This sometimes causes the baby to suffer lifelong damage.
Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause a number of birth defects, ranging from mild to severe. These include mental retardation; learning, emotional and behavioral problems; and defects involving the heart, face and other organs. The term "fetal alcohol spectrum disorder" is used to describe the many problems associated with exposure to alcohol before birth. The most severe of these is fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), a combination of physical and mental birth defects.
Consuming alcohol during pregnancy also increases the risk of miscarriage, low birthweight (less than 5½ pounds) and stillbirth.
Researchers are taking a closer look at the more subtle effects of moderate and light drinking during pregnancy. A 2002 study found that 14-year-old children whose mothers drank as little as one drink a week were significantly shorter and leaner and had a smaller head circumference (a possible indicator of brain size) than children of women who did not drink at all. A 2001 study found that 6- and 7-year-old children of mothers who had as little as one drink a week during pregnancy were more likely than children of non-drinkers to have behavior problems, such as aggressive and delinquent behaviors.
*My thoughts* - Why would you want to risk that? Would you give your just-born new baby a little bottle of wine? Even once? I wouldn't... and if you drink during pregnancy... you're kind of doing that... only they're even littler.
By the way, I'm pregant too...already have a 3 year old and he's super smart and way ahead of the curve because I took super good care of us when I was pregnant with him XD Good luck!

It all depends on the person---I have always heard that a glass of wine here and there is not bad at all--or a beer once in a while wont hurt--but dont make it a daily thing or a have more than one at a time.

Our doctor told us, no alcohol during the first 2 months. After that you can have one (1) glass of wine with food to help you relax in the evening. Whatever you do, don't drink too much, it can harm your baby.
If you plan to breast feed, a glass of wine will help you "let down" your milk to get started.

No it's not there are some that say a glass of red wine is ok but they say that one drink can cause fetal alcohol syndrome so why would you want to chance that?

A half glass with dinner every now and then probably won't be harmful, but then again, why risk it? They don't stick those warnings on the bottle for nothing.
You can celebrate with some nice champagne right there in your hospital bed once your hard work is done. It'll be the best champagne you've ever had.

Absolutely not. Stay away from all forms of alcohol. You don't know how much could affect your baby's development. I have known one kid with fetal alcohol syndrome and he has a lot of problems.
