so i love the smell of gain! fresh awakenings! but its so expensive! what else smells great but costs less?

I've never used Gain Fresh Awakenings, but Arm and Hammer puts out a good laundry detergent. Alternately, you could use some other brand and add baking soda, oxyclean, or borax.
