My theory on this topic is that it seems that parents seem to be too busy with careers and other things, that they don't focus on how important it is for our children to have good manners and without good manners there won't be respect for others and eventually lack of respect for themselves.

I assume it depends on the environment as well where the children are raised. Whenever i go countries like Australia or England, I find the children there a lot more polite and mannerful than the children in North America.

I agree that morals and ethics should be taught at school since a lot of parents are unwilling or too lazy to teach it.

My children know better than to not use their manners. They are 11 & 13, we are southern, and down here, it is always yes m'am, or yes sir, excuse me, I beg your pardon, thank you, please,etc...Those who CHOOSE not to teach their children, were apparently not taught well themselves. Manners are taught, and my children definitely have them. MY mother says those who teach their children to respect, and have manners have "good breeding", those who don't...well I cannot type what she says on that one. It all depends on the parents, and only THEY know why they choose to allow their children to disrespect others. It's pretty sad how some parents just do not care, but they are always the first to complain when their child gets in trouble as well. Teach your children properly, and you will have less problems.

Look at sociatey as a whole these days. Look how people act. My dad always talks of family unity when he was growing up (1940's era) when families were still close. Everyone respected everyone--elders. Dinner was eaten together, church was every sunday with the family, things were better than. I'm 26, but I long for days like that of the past. Things are going downhill so fast these days.

Not all children/teenagers are that way. Well at the least, I'm not. And I'm 15. Sometimes, parents put alot of pressure. . . And. . You just snap. My mom normally is very nice, outgoing. . . Kind of like a friend to me, so its fine. But when it comes to grades, she wants everything to have A's. Which is hard sometimes.

Sorry, I don't like the fact you guys stereotype us. I know there are a few teens out there that are unrespectful etc. . . But there are alot more decent kids, then bad.

Its just easier to look at the bad kids, cause they are more attention recieving. Gosh.

Snap out of the stereotype. Are you all like 60+ or something?

It is not that the parents aren't teaching the kids, it is just that some of use choose not to care and just be out right stupid and disrespectful. You can lead the horse to the water but you can't make him drink. Also you you must give respect in order to get it!

Parents arent teaching their kids to be polite and use manners because they arent polite, they don't have manners and have no respect for others.

This is a question that is a little hard to answer. It is one I have been asking myself for a long time. There seems to be a thing now that the kid's feelings are considered much more than their actions. Why this is I don't knw
