I really want to make my delivery room as comfortable as possible. Ive heard that the more homey you make the room the better. So Ive made a birthplan. I would like to have the lights low, and bring a few things from home. Ive also plan to have my own pillows spread with my favorite scent. I know that now matter what I do its still going to be labor and it wont be a fun process. But anyway I was just wonerding if anyone else has done this and Im wondering what worked best for you???

I took a small album(hand sized) and filled it with my favorite family and friends pictures. Great Memories!! My baby and I were very Ill so they took a picture of her and brought it to me I looked at the pic until we were healthy to meet each other. Years later I still pick it up and remember how comforting it was through labor and on. I kept all the pics in that same little album with her newborn picture in the last slot.

Lighting, music, those are good - but I would caution you against perfume. It could be a bad scene if your nurse or doctor has an aversion to the scent - and when you're in labor it might even make you sick! I remember bringing a LOT more stuff with me to the hospital than I actually needed... One thing is for sure though - I highly suggest getting some adult diapers - because they give you the tiniest pads after you give birth in the hospital and I woke up in a pool of blood... Wish someone had warned me!

Best wishes!

When I gave birth to my first son, my LDR room was sort of homey...had curtains, a sofa, etc. No matter what you do, there are still going to be the monitors in there, beeping and lighting up, doctors and nurses in and out, etc. Honestly, I was so engrossed in my contractions (or the pain of them, rather!) I really wasn't paying any attention to my surroundings. Just trying to get through them as best I could. When it came time to push, I was concentrating so intently on watching my baby be born (in the mirror) I wasn't noticing anything else...no scents, flowers, pictures on the wall, etc.

Also, you should watch spraying any kind of linen spray or air freshener. Many women become physically ill during labor, and anything scented strongly could make you nauseous.

Didn't do it because the hospital itself was pretty nice. But another idea is to bring music that you like or a DVD you like. I was watching the Today show. It distracted me during delivery. If you get an epidural, you can do a lot more while you wait to dilate. So you can bring a book or something. But I think you'll just be too excited and scared and happy to really need anything (besides your pillow) from home.

I had a hospital birth with #1, a freestanding birth center birth with #2 and a homebirth with #3. I was definately the most relaxed at home and in my own space.

i love to lose myself in movies. my husband brought a mini-dvd player and hooked it up to the in-room tv, so i could watch all my favorite movies.
