LOVE the avatar!
I'm female... I hate doctors.
When I need one, I can't really profess to prefer a man or a woman. It is more about attitude and professionalism...
I like a doctor who can explain to me what is going on, and how what they propose to do will remedy the situation. They have to be some sort of smart to have gotten through medical school, so it really bugs me when they try and baby-talk with small words and cooing tone... is that supposed to comfort me? I want firm-but-gentle confidence from these people in whose hands I put my life!
Gynecologists- I think there's a special corner of hell for them, with lashes from a flaming whip for every time they have spoken the words "this won't hurt a bit." That's my stuff! It's really sensitive! It does hurt! A lot! Don't try to lie to me about it!

1. I am a transgender person with a fairly masculine male body.
2. Women are often more sensitive to what is unsaid and for other women that is often a great help, especially when talking about things that might be viewed as embarassing.
3. Male doctors have to be supplied with specific information. So when you go in you have to make a shopping list in your head.
It's sometime easier to tell really embarassing stuff to a man if you are a man.
Recently I had an incident with a dildo, which I stupidly pushed too far into my butt. I had to go to the ER and was fully anaesthetized before it was removed. I was quite glad that the surgeon was a woman, as I felt she might be more sympathetic. Indeed she did give a kindly smile and a really friendly squeeze before while I was waiting in the O.R.
The only bad experience was the ER doctor, also a woman, who was too timid to push her hand into my butt to get the durn thing out. The funniest thing was the receptionist, who burst into laughter when I told her why I was there.
A gay nurse told me that they had similar cases about once a month. He was really nice.
So really I don't think it makes much difference. When I go to a doctor I want her or him to be competent. And it's up to me to give them the best possible information so that he/she can act on it.
In fact I would probably prefer to go a transgender doctor or a gay male doctor. I was once exposed to HIV and had to explain to the doctor that I was gay/bi and needed a HIV blood test.
That was very stressful.
Later on it turned out that my partner was HIV + and despite having unprotected sex with him on several (wonderful) occasions I am still HIV -. But nor are we together any more.

I'm male. MOST Of the doctors I have seen are also male, but I had surgery (gall bladder removal) done by a female, and she did a great job. I had no second thoughts about letting her do it because of her gender. I was in pain and wanted it fixed! I've been to a female dentist (bad experience, but not connected to her gender, at least I don't think so) and there is a female in my primary doctor's clinic that I've seen from time to time when he's not available. As long as the doc is well qualifed and is concerned about my well being, I don't care what gender she or he is.

Your avatar sure doesn't suggest you are a lesbian.
1. Male
2. Dont care for basic stuff, but when it comes to something like having a problem with "man land" -(Tim Taylor on Home Improvement) then I would prefer a male doctor. they would have more of an idea because they have the same hardware as me....

For some reason, I'm USUALLY very professional about medical treatment, so it doesn't matter. That having been said, I have been attracted to male doctors before (a couple times... :-/) and it might make me a little uncomfortable, but nothing embarrassing happened or anything so whatever.

I'm Male, and if I have to claim a preference for a medical doctor, I prefer male as well. But, if it is a psychologist or therapist, I prefer female.

1. male
2. I would prefer a male doctor.
REASON: the last time I went for an "examination" there was a woman, her fingers were thin, cold, and she had long fingernails

1. female
2. either, so long as the jewelry is off & the nails are short!
I can understand you being uncomfortable, especially if you get turned on & cannot deal with how you feel vs. what is medically going on. Personally, I think that the women doctors are kind of rough, & tend to forget to do something about that rock on their ring finger.

I'm a girl and I think a woman doctor is likely to be more sensitive to any issues, I have a woman doctor myself.
