Most states have laws preventing people from being terminated due to illness. The laws usually have a limit like a month or something. Your place of employment has to show you what the law is in your state if you ask them. Different unions have negotiated different agreements. Check with your union.

No you have a medical excuse. But however if you live in a state like most southern states that have the" higher and fire" at will clause it can get tricky then. If they really want to get rid of you, they would let you work a few more days then find something but they won't you are ok. If they want to fire you the will, You have an excuse dont feel bad:-)

No, they don't have to pay you for the time you were out but they can't fire you or do anything negative to you for a legitimate short-term illness. For longer illnesses, they have to give you 12 weeks of unpaid leave before they can do anything.

Depends on your contract and/or the state you live in.
In some cases it does not matter what you bring, they can even fire you for being successful.
