Actually Wal-Mart has some decent bats available. I picked up the Hammer by Easton and a lot of our kids like it (13-15yo). I also picked up a Typhoon but it's a -7 and it gets used quite often too... 2 HR's in all-stars using the Hammer.
Both are under $50.

I don't know if they have a place like Play It Again Sports in your area but I would check there. Also you can always find good deals on bats in the off-season as well. I don't think I've ever paid more than 100.00 for a 33-30.

I got an Easton Hammer on sale for $75. It isnt a great bat, but its pretty decent.
