I don't want to dampen your spirits but the c-pap device may be your only choice. I have a severe case of sleep apnea and opted for surgery as a solution. The operation was invasive with a very painful month long recovery. Surgery under the best conditions is only fifty per cent effective and did not work for me. C-pap it is.

Well, one question I would have is your weight. People with sleep apnea problems...which is what you seem to be describing are often over weight. Weight loss can significantly relieve the problem. Can you lose weight?

sleep only on your sides, put pillows behind your back to prevent rollover, or sew tennis balls on the back of your shirt to keep you from rolling over
