I didn't want to do anything but soak up the excess with an old towel cause I didn't want to smudge it. But now I have this big spot about the size of a dinner plate in my living room carpet.... What if anything can get it out? Please.. :-(

Steps:
1. Pour white wine over the red wine stain, or simply blot stain with a clean cloth or paper towels if no white wine is available.

2. Lift as much liquid as possible when blotting. Do not rub.

3. Sponge the stained area with warm water.

4. Blot dry with a clean cloth or paper towels.

5. Apply carpet shampoo, gently working foam into stain.

6. Rinse with warm water.

7. Repeat until stain is completely lifted.

Tips:
Act immediately. The longer a stain sits, the harder it is to remove.

If stain persists, apply a solution of equal parts glycerin and warm water. Let sit one hour, sponge with warm water and blot dry.

Truly removes red wine by Stephanie
"Tide with Bleach" works well to remove red wine stains from carpet. However, use very little because it did lighten my carpet just a bit, but it is barely noticeable because my carpet is very light. My thanks to the lady in Albuquerque.

Make up a mixture of 50% liquid detergent and 50% hydrogen peroxide. Rub into stain and leave for a few minutes, then dry off with clean dry cloth. Repeat as needed. I used this and it removed a whole bottle of red wine from a fawn carpet, which I thought was impossible.

When red wine is spilled onto your carpet, white wine can be your true companion. White wine will neutralize red wine and will make it easier to lift the color off of your carpet. Simply pour white wine over the stained area and very gently blot the liquid up with a thick towel (be very careful not to rub as this will force the stain into the carpet fibers). Once you have the majority of the spill blotted up, take your favorite carpet shampoo and clean as you would if the wine stain were a bit of dirt on the carpet.

That guy is always screaming about Oxy-clean on the commercials and it seems like red wine is one of the things that he slops on the carpet and then cleans up. Oxy-clean works pretty well on dye-type stains, like markers or wine, but not so great on greasy stains. So oxygen cleaners (there are also generic versions) should work. But test a hidden spot on your carpet to make sure it doesn't make the color turn all weird.

It's probably too late for white wine. I think it doesn't really work after the red wine has dried. But if you happen to have red and white wine bottles open, pour on some red wine, then some white wine, and see what happens. Yay! Fun for everyone! (I personally despise wine and I wouldn't care if it all got poured on the carpet as long as it didn't stain. But that's just me.)

Sounds funny, but try using baby wipes (huggies seem best) first. Blot of course. If that doesn't work go to your local carpet store and see if they can get you some lemon scented tek. It is a powder and I know it gets grease out, double check with them if it would work on the wine stain. Worse case scenerio you may have to have someone come in and do a patch job. If you get someone good you shouldn't even see the patch once it is done.

What I hear works really well is oxyclean. It should be in the laundry detergent isle in any store like walmart or Fredmeyer. I've used it on clothes with grass stains before and it has worked great. Good luck with it!

convinced. Amazingly, a thanks to get rid of red wine stains from fabrics which includes carpets etc is to stay with white wine to the stained section. The red stain will disappear after using the plonk, then you definitely rub the affected section with a moist fabric and detergent.
