the filing fee for dissoulution (divorce), legal separation, or nullity of marraige (annulment) in California is the same. 320.00 However, you can fill out a fee waiver application to see if you qualify to get some or all of the fees waived.
filing for an annulment has Nothing to do with the ammount of Time you were married. it is based on the circumstances of the marraige. were you married under fraudulent terms? then you can file for annulment.
then you can skip the lawyers and do the process on your own, by getting assistance from a Family Law Facilitator. A FLF is someone at your local court who can guide you throught the process and help you with the paperwork you need to fill out. (for free)but they dont appear in court with you.
if the divorce is uncontested, it will be final 6mo and 1 day from the date that the Petition and Summons were served on the other party.

Get a how to divorce book from Barnes and Noble and do it yourself. It will cost you less than $200. People at the court house will help you fill the paper work out. They also have pro bono or free legal assistance at the court house. If you have lots of property and assests, that's more complicated. You may need a lawyer then.

If there is property to be divided and children, there is no cheap method.
However if there are no children and no division of property, you can get the forms and do it cheaply without the added expense of a 300.00 an hour lawyer
For those married less than a year, get an annulment...in other words the marriage never happened. It was all just a bad bad dream

Ok. I just filled my divorce in San Diego. The quickest way is an uncontested divorse, but for this you and your spouse have to be agreed on everything. That's the quickest, fastest trouble free divorse.

If you haven't been married for more than a year, you may want to look into an anulment. Otherwise, theres no way to avoid the expense.
