Yes. $350 is considered about the average. Rebuilt, they will still run you about $150.

Depends on make and model of cars. Parts is an area where foreign car makes can really hurt. Typically a foreign car alternator can run as high as $200 - $300 in Toyotas and Hondas, an additional $75 for labor is reasonable.
Older american vehicle's alternators typically costed less than $100.
So your quoted price could be very much in line.

On the cheap side, the labor charge at a shop is about 65 bucks an hour with a one hour minimum. It can easily take into the second hour to do the job so lets say 130 bucks in labor. Lets also assume that all of the belts are 20 bucks each. 130 - labor 60 - parts add sales tax lets say 7%, about 13 bucks That makes 203 bucks. I'd say yes it is reasonable.

I would call your local Auto Zone or other parts store and see what the alternator costs.
For example, I got a couple of quotes to do the front brakes on my VW Golf. Both were around $180 for pads and rotors.
I bought the parts myself for $36 and did the job, saving myself $140 or so.
Just something to consider...

No, it is not reasonable. I would cry "FOUL" at $175 worth of alternator work. You should be able to get a rebuilt one, and give back your old one for the 'core cost' for $100 or LESS!!!!

Depends on what car it's going into. I would tell you that is the going rate right now. I would change it myself before I paid the mechanic that, but just the alternaor is about $200 nowadays.
